After a break out turn in Jane Campion's "Bright Star," Abbie Cornish has landed a number of profile projects with "Limitless," "Sucker Punch" and "W.E." all coming out last year to varying degrees of success. The actress also teamed with Martin McDonagh for his latest star-studded effort "Seven Psychopaths" but has returned to her indie roots with David Riker's drama "The Girl."

Riker's first film since his debut "La Ciudad" in 1998, Cornish previously noted that the film follows "a 25 year old Texan girl has a five-year-old son that she’s lost to the welfare system, she sees an opportunity to make money bringing illegal immigrants across the border. So she does it as a one-off and during this incident in a river, she’s left with the responsibility of a 9-year-old girl. So it’s her journey with a 9-year-old Mexican girl through Mexico to get her home.”

The actress also added that the role particularly challenging as about "70 percent of [her] dialogue was Spanish," a language the actress spoke none of. This first look preview clip doesn't offers a glimpse of Cornish's Spanish but exhibits her Texan accent instead. Maritza Santigo and Will Patton also co-star in the pic, which will premiere this weekend at the Tribeca Film Festival. [HollywoodElsewhere]
