Cumberbitches, activate! Benedict Cumberbatch has had a pretty good year. He was the main villain “Star Trek: Into Darkness” and he’s about to be doing the same as the voice of a dragon in “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.” But about that first tentpole ... what about all that lying and thieving he had to do to protect the identity of his character Khan (something director J.J. Abrams recently said he regrets)? How was that for Cumberbatch and what does he have to say about Abrams’ crazy penchant for secrecy?

“What a dickhead,” the actor laughed, obviously teasing in an interview with IGN. “I mean, the amount of times we had to lie for him. The amount of secrets, the amount of times I had to not talk about it being my character. God damn him.”

In all seriousness he says of that decision, “I don’t know if it’s a bad or a good thing. It was his call. I was fine with it. The intention was to have the reveal for the audience that was going to be thrilling, people were going to go, [gasps] ‘Really!?’ And that worked to an extent, ’cause not everyone knew what they were in for when they went into the theater and some people wanted to join in that thrill of seeing it and experiencing it in the theater rather than having it spoiled from reviews or Internet gossip or trailers that gave everything away.”

And just because you probably can’t get enough Cumberbatch, please enjoy a dramatic reading of R. Kelly’s “Black Panties” because, well, obviously.
