Listen, it's pretty much a wasteland at the box office this weekend. The less said about "A Haunted House" the better, while "Gangster Squad" is just plain disappointing (you'd be better off watching these classic gangster flicks instead). Granted, "Zero Dark Thirty" is going wide, but if you'd rather avoid the crowds, there are options if you're just staying in. Roman Coppola's "A Glimpse Inside The Mind Of Charles Swan III" is now on VOD, and if you need to know what it's all about, Charlie Sheen is here to tell you.

A new band trailer for the movie has dropped, and though brief, its simple approach is pretty clever. Sheen introduces the spot to explain to viewers what they'll be getting, and then it moves into a montage of magazine images of pop art clips with an emphasis on nude women. Jason Schwartzman caps things off with a quick appearance. But in case you're really wondering what it's actually about, the film is set in the '70s and follows Charles Swan (Sheen), a successful graphic designer whose who world falls apart when his girlfriend Ivana, dumps him. And so begins a quest to learn how to live without her in his life.

A pretty great company is assembled around Sheen with Schwartzman, Bill Murray, Patricia Arquette, Aubrey Plaza, Katheryn Winnick, Richard Edson, Maxine Bahns and Bar Paly among the cast. Order it up now, and if you want to see it on the big screen, 'Charles Swan' hits theaters on February 8th. Watch below.

I just finished watching the movie, actually. A torrent of it leaked out somehow. I can't say I was a fan at all. I think all the accusations flying around about Wes Anderson caring more about style than substance for that stretch of time (generally aimed towards Life Aquatic and Darjeeling) can be applied much more strongly towards Roman Coppola. It's not that the film is insufferable or poorly made or even poorly acted, it's just that it lacks soul. It's more a collection of scenes than an actual story. And what story is there, is very thin. Basically, Charlie Sheen gets dumped in the beginning and proceeds to be very sad and have fantasies throughout the rest of the film. He doesn't have any great catharsis, any revelation, just sort of goes on through life having learned nothing. I was sort of amazed by the end of it that it was a story that Roman Coppola thought would be a great one to tell. Very little actually happens in the story, there's little to no character development, and the film is extremely guilty of letting the production design be the star. I can't recommend the movie at all. I suspect when it actually comes out that the reviews won't be kind and very few people will get anything out of it.
