For all the high falutin', critically acclaimed shows on HBO, the network isn't above shoveling out lesser fare, and "True Blood" continues to be the odd man out in their lineup. For this writer, it's a pure guilty, trashy pleasure, but even that wasn't enough to make sitting through season 4 worth it. Dreadfully awful on nearly every level, the big mistake was turning Alexander Skarsgard's Eric into simpering, emotional mess for the majority of the season and everything else followed from there, with none of the cast able to fill out the humorous, wicked void his character left behind.

However, season five looks like it will be a return to form that will hopefully ditch the witches/faeries/fantasy element that sidetracked last season. The trailer is certainly promising with Eric back in regular form, and Christopher Meloni looking solid as the head of the much talked about vampire Authority, who Eric and Bill will be plotting against. And the return of the god-fearing vampire-hating pastor Steve Newlin -- now turned into the undead himself -- looks like it will bring an intriguing element to the show as well. So yeah, could be Tivo worthy fun once again.

"True Blood" premieres on June 10th. Watch below.
