Watch The Trailer: Jake Gyllenhaal & Michael Peña Star In Gritty Cop Thriller 'End Of Watch'

A found footage cop movie? OK, not quite, but David Ayer's "End of Watch," starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael Pena as two cops in the LAPD, definitely has that visceral, super intimate, shot on digital-cameras look to it. Or as Ayer once described it: an "in your face” POV style, and that's definitely the case.

Ayer wrote "Training Day, "The Fast & the Furious" and "S.W.A.T." and was the writer/director of "Harsh Times" and "Street Kings," so cops and that beat is definitely his bread and butter. A drama centered on the long-term friendship and partnership between two cops, 'Watch' also looks like it focuses on two beat cops who have an itch for detective duty and end up rolling up on drug cartel criminals and starting something way bigger than they can handle.

Co-starring Anna Kendrick, "Magic Mike" newcomer Cody Horn, America Ferrera, Frank Grillo and more, "End of Watch" is due September 28th via Open Road Films. Check out the trailer below.

You forgot that Ayer also wrote Dark Blue, but this looks more along the lines of Street Kings or Pride and Glory than We Own the Night or Narc. Ayer makes trash cop films, and that's coming from a cop. I did enjoy Training Day but even that was highly unrealistic. Also, what is with the camera angles in this thing. I know the idea is supposed to be actual footage or something, but what cop car has a camera on the floorboard to look up at the crouches?

David Ayer needs to chill on the "gritty cop" films... and that lead photo of Gyllenhaal is unintentionally hilarious. he was great in Zodiac, it's too bad he's made some bad choices since.
