BitTorrent, perhaps one of a few words that can strike fear in the hearts of movie executives, has long been synonymous with piracy. But Cinedigm are hoping to change the game. Today they tried out a new marketing tactic, one that embraces the filesharing tool and tries to use it as promotion, and while time will only tell if the industry and movie viewers dig this kind of personalized touch, it has resulted in a pretty generous look at "Arthur Newman."
As part of the bundle dropped online, Cinedigm has included the first ten minutes of the film, an almost absurd amount of film stills, as well as the poster for the film. Starring Colin Firth and Emily Blunt, the film centers on a depressed divorced dad who fakes his death and adopts a new identity, to escape the problems in his life. Along the way, he meets a troubled woman and the two form an unlikely union, and hit the road, both on the run from what they've left behind. You won't see Blunt in this opening section of the movie, but it does set in motion the story that Firth's character will follow.
If you like what you see, "Arthur Newman" opens in limited release this Friday, April 26th.
