Having turned the revenge movie on its head, with the sly, smart, beautiful “Blue Ruin,” Jeremy Saulnier followed it up with “Green Room,” and the movie hit midway through Cannes last year like a blast of adrenaline. A gory riff on the “Assault On Precinct 13”-style siege thriller, it sees a touring punk band, The Ain’t Rights (Anton Yelchin, Alia Shawkat, Joe Cole and Callum Turner) stopping for a gig at a remote Oregon venue that turns out to be a haven of racist skinheads, and witness a murder that sees them locked in their dressing room while the hordes outside try to break back in to cover up their crimes.
It’s a thrilling, expertly constructed picture that might be even better than “Blue Ruin,” with killer performances not just from the band but from Imogen Poots, Mark Webber, Macon Blair and, as the head skinhead, a revelatory Patrick Stewart. And now, you can get your first look at the movie, as Empire have debuted the first teaser for the movie.
It’s a pretty good taste of what to expect, while keeping most of the movie’s carnage hidden away for now, but if you like what you see, you’ll likely fall hard for the movie too (we loved it at Cannes - here’s our review). Take a look at the trailer below, and start counting the days: A24 open the film in the U.S. on April 1st, and it hits the UK (this is the UK teaser) on May 13th.
