David Cronenberg is back, and this time he's taking on his most terrifying, mind-altering subject yet: Hollywood families. Yep, the filmmaker who has spent a career shaking us up with various types of body horror, is continuing his exploration into the psyche, following up the Freudian "A Dangerous Method" and the chatty "Cosmopolis" with "Maps To The Stars."

The first international trailer for the film has dropped today, providing a peek at what Cronenberg and new bromantic partner Robert Pattinson are cooking up next. Co-starring John Cusack, Julianne Moore, Mia Wasikowska, Olivia Williams and Sarah Gadon, the Bruce Wagner-penned movie is vicious look at a twisted Hollywood dynasty, telling the story of the Weiss family, of whom each member seems to have their own variety of fucked up problems. And that's just the start.

One of our 100 Most Anticipated Films Of 2014 and a film likely to appear at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival, the R-rated film (for violence, sex, nudity and drugs) will be distributed by eOne in the U.S.

Pattinson will have the last laugh - I'm sure he can have that today if he wishes - vampire movies gave him some serious freedom in the way of a huge bank account - like he needs anyone's approval.

Only the pathetic trolls on here are comparing this to "The Canyons." Get a life, will you?

  • just me | April 15, 2014 2:53 PMReply

it looks more "human" than Cosmopolis, easier to watch, though i really loved Cosm. as usually Cronenberg's movie is more than just about physical, deep and smart. and hot, of course.. how else. so Rob fits good there and the whole cast is amazing. looking forward to watching The Maps:)

You have posted the wrong trailer, this is an unofficial pre-sales teaser for marketing purposes not meant for mass consumption. I'm sure Cronenberg would prefer if you posted the official trailer.

It looks generic and about as accessible as Cosmopolis. I would wager it's another trying-too-hard to-be-cool indie with middling box office potential and hipster hype. The Canyons does come to mind.

"another trying-too-hard to-be-cool indie with middling box office potential and hipster hype"

I thought you were describing that huge bomb, On The Road. Perfect description, you can see how I was confused, right? Same deal, but with a lesser cast, more on par with The Canyons.

This looks like it could be brilliant. Creepy, weird, thrilling, sexy, intense, dark and twisted. Everyone in the cast is impressive, even in this small glimpse of what's to come. I can't wait to see LA through the lens of Cronenberg.

    Cronenberg remakes THE CANYONS?

  • rob | April 14, 2014 7:59 PMReply

looks good, not great. cosmopolis was great. hope to be proven wrong when i see it.

  • Jordon | April 14, 2014 6:39 PMReply

Laughing at all the transparent whiners. This film looks fantastic. Great cast, complicated relationships, a ghost, an arsonist, crazy peeps and the smoothest limo driver ever. I want my ticket now!

Can't wait for this. Loved Cosmopolis and Eastern promises, I'm not really sure what's going on with the negative comments.

  • Jay | April 14, 2014 6:40 PM

Ignore them, they're just Kristen Stewart fans who are still angry at Robert Pattinson for dumping her, thus they'll slam this movie just because he's in it. It's highly unlikely they've ever seen a Cronenberg film.

  • yer | April 14, 2014 5:18 PMReply

This looks boring. What ever happened to Cronenberg?

  • MARIO | April 14, 2014 5:05 PMReply

@BENXPETE Eastern Promises was okay untill that embarrassing and unconvincing happy ending. It's clearly Croneneberg wanting love from the mainstream. Nah, thanks. He's not the same anymore.

Looks great! Awesome cast. Can't wait to see this movie.

Can't wait to see the movie !

  • Mario | April 14, 2014 4:41 PMReply

Totally undewhelming. Croneneberg's in an artistic downright spiral lately. Eastern Promises, The Dangerous Method, the insufferable Cosmopolis, and now this. It's disappointing to say the least.

  • Jake | April 15, 2014 1:57 AM

I'm with Chaos... and Bef, Cosmopolis was excellent.

  • chaos...reigns | April 14, 2014 5:27 PM

Am I the only one who actually thought Cosmopolis was pretty great? It's a pretty spot on adaptation of the novel, granted the novel was also divisive.

  • BEF | April 14, 2014 5:08 PM

If that's a downward spiral, I'll continue down the rabbit hole. Cosmopolis was a masterpiece.

  • benxpete | April 14, 2014 4:51 PM

Also you need to remove Eastern Promises from that list. C'mon now, lets get real.
