Very often music is used as a motivation in films as well as a compositional tool. Earlier this year, Keira Knightley used music to get over a break-up and a head start on her road to fame in "Begin Again," and in "Rudderless," a box of old demo tapes will be key to solving one man's grief.
William H. Macy's directorial debut stars Billy Crudup, Anton Yelchin, Felicity Huffman, Jamie Chung, Selena Gomez and Laurence Fishburne and tells the story of a father who goes on a downward spiral following the sudden death of his son. But when he stumbles across his son's demo tapes, he discovers a talent he didn't know his boy had, and decides to form a band to perform the tunes. Premiering at Sundance earlier this year, it's a movie described in our review as "an ambitious and strong first start for Macy’s filmmaking career, as he’s clearly taken a note or two from some of the great filmmakers he’s worked for."
"Rudderless" opens in theatres and on VOD on October 17th. Watch below.
