For over five years now, the Soundworks Collective video series has illuminated the nuanced soundscapes of award-nominated (and other deserving) films, including “Scott Pilgrim vs. The World,” “War Horse,” and “Inception,” and now as we're reaching the apex of Oscar-hopeful-season, a new slate has dropped online.

Fresh off of opening to more-than-respectable box office numbers, “Skyfall,” “Lincoln,” and “Flight” are the latest entries that Soundworks take one, giving them the chance to look at an array of sound designers' work, while also tapping the films' directors to explain the final integration of sound into the film. From Skywalker Sound's Ben Burtt talking about positioning sound effects in an 1865 period environment, to the “Skyfall” sound editors noting Sam Mendes' meticulous nature toward effects, the result is an insightful slice of film trivia that is also entertaining.

It's a helpful explanation of the difference between the “Sound Mixing” and “Sound Editing” Oscar categories, so check the three videos out below, and you can also catch the rest of Soundworks' work by heading to their website archive.
