Bubblin' up out of the bayou come three more teasers for HBO's January series “True Detective," and we are pretty darn excited for this show right here. Two of the clips will introduce you to our leading men: Detectives Cohle (Matthew McConaughey, in the glorious middle of a spectacular career resurrection, as we recently noted) and Hart (Woody Harrelson, in no need whatsoever of a resurrection, thank you very much) as, respectively, a whiskery old misanthrope and “a regular guy with a big-ass dick.”

Cohle and Hart turn up something deeply spooky on their bleak rural Louisiana beat: something that appears, unexpectedly and enticingly, to echo the ongoing revival of creepy British folk horror, something with antlers and vaguely Celtic tattoos and a trail of dead bodies. “True Detective” will tell the story of the 17-year hunt for the killer and has a cast including Michelle Monaghan and Kevin Dunn, with Cary Fukunaga ("Jane Eyre," "Sin Nombre") behind the camera.

“True Detective” hits HBO on January 12th, but for now enjoy these balls-out previews, and the magnificent Black Angels soundtrack, and stay out of the backwoods.
