The pain of love and the strains of fidelity seem to be recurring themes in the burgeoning career of filmmaker Drake Doremus. He burst onto the scene with the long distance romancer "Like Crazy," turned an Intel/Toshiba promo opportunity into the web series "The Beauty Inside" (watch it here) and now returns to the bruising pangs of love with "Breathe In." And the first trailer is here to provide a window into what he's conjured for his latest.

Re-teaming with his "Like Crazy" lead Felicity Jones, and rounding up Guy Pearce and Amy Ryan, "Like Crazy" tells the story Keith (Pearce), a former rock musician and current music teacher, who has uneasily settled into a suburban life with his wife Megan (Ryan), though the fire in their marriage has long since extinguished. But some of that passion fire is sparks when Keith allows Sophie (Jones), a English foreign exchange student, stay with his family for her final semester. As you'll see, boundaries and lines are crossed, and lives forever changed.

It's a movie we called "emotionally poignant and heartbreaking" when we saw it earlier this year at Sundance, and it's one to definitely keep an eye out for. "Breath In" opens in the U.K. on July 19th, and later this year in the U.S. via Cohen Media Group. Trailer and new photos below. [Guardian]

This film was bursting at the seams with cliches and had nothing new to offer in terms of content or style - every line of action was predictable and the cinematography was ok very nice but not groundbreaking. I really don't get the rage over Doremus's work, I find it utterly pretentious and his storytelling actually quite dull. Also maybe he should think about actually writing a script as opposed to leaving it up to improvisation, because there were many times in both this film and in Like Crazy in which it was painfully obvious that the actor was trying to think of something interesting to say as their respective character (not their fault but his!).

I completely agree with you Yawn. His mother working in the groundlings has something to do with this I am sure. Totally not artistic, not an original voice, needs to go away, or give the money to starving children. Wasn't this film done recently called "Nobody Walks" by Ry Russo? Another tween no talent hack that makes films about their dull caged vapid lives.

Another great performance from Guy Pearce; surely the most underrated actor around.

I just want to add a little correction to the text:

Where it says ""Like Crazy" tells the story Keith (Pearce), a former rock musician and current music teacher, who has uneasily settled into a suburban life with his wife Megan (Ryan), though the fire in their marriage has long since extinguished."

It should say "'Breath In" tells the story...'".

Looks like a wonderful film nonetheless.
