The routine way to go with sequels is pick up where the last movie left off, stick to the template, deliver slightly bigger thrills and collect the cash rewards. The routine way to go with sequels is pick up where the last movie left off, stick to the template, deliver slightly bigger thrills and collect the cash rewards. But credit to the folks behind "Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes" for trying to build up a fresh mythology. Featuring a new cast and director while picking up years after the events in "Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes," it would appear they've chosen telling a good story over rehashing the same old ape tale.

Picking up years after the events of the first film, 'Dawn' finds humanity clinging to existence, with a deadly virus having ravaged most of the population. Caesar has now grown and evolved too, able to speak, and leading a pack of primates. But of course, collision is inevitable and as this first clip from MTV highlights, it would be wise not to underestimate the apes.

"Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes" opens on July 11th and stay tuned tomorrow night for a new trailer.
