Let's get one thing straight: While boasting a terrific director in John Hillcoat ("The Road," "Lawless") and an insanely stacked ensemble featuring Casey Affleck, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Kate Winslet, Clifton Collins, Jr., Gal Gadot, Woody Harrelson, Anthony Mackie, Teresa Palmer, Aaron Paul, and Norman Reedus, "Triple 9" is not an Oscar movie. In fact, it's opening the same weekend as this year's Academy party. However, the picture does look like it's going to be one of the most intense things we'll see in cinemas over the next few months, and a new trailer for it has dropped.
Penned by Matt Cook, the Black List-approved script tells the story of a group of cops who plan a heist, only for everything to go very, very wrong. Here's the official synopsis:
In TRIPLE 9, a crew of dirty cops is blackmailed by the Russian mob to execute a virtually impossible heist. The only way to pull it off is to manufacture a 999, police code for “officer down”. Their plan is turned upside down when the unsuspecting rookie they set up to die foils the attack, triggering a breakneck, action-packed finale filled with double-crosses, greed and revenge.
"Triple" 9 will feature a score co-written by Atticus Ross (“The Social Network,” “Gone Girl”) and hit theaters on February 26th. Watch below.
