First up is a clip that shows the beginning of thief Jean Valjean’s second chance at life when his victim, the Bishop (Colm Wilkinson), saves him after he’s caught stealing silver. It’s a short clip, but it’s a pretty important moment in Valjean’s arc. The two featurettes delve into both Valjean and the Bishop, with the first featuring some great behind-the-scenes footage of Hugh Jackman in character and talking about his method of preserving his voice: no coffee, no dairy, 8 hours of sleep, hot water with lemon, and vows of silences. The second featurette should be interesting to fans of the original musical as it focuses on Wilkinson who was the first actor to play Valjean.
You already how we feel about the musical, but you’ll be able to see the results for yourself when “Les Misérables” opens Christmas Day. Check out the clips and featurettes below.
