Watch: New 3-Minute 'Prometheus' Trailer Sends Already High Expectations Into Orbit

Fuck it. No intro, let's just get right to the point: "Prometheus" looks like the movie event of the summer, hands down, no argument (sorry, Marvel and DC comic movies).

A brand new, three-minute trailer has dropped for the film, and if you weren't already chomping at the bit for Ridley Scott's return to sci-fi, this will do the trick. Featuring a ton of new footage (lots more of Charlize Theron's Vickers, who clearly is hiding a helluva agenda), this great new look gives us a lot more (hopefully not too much though) of just what Noomi Rapace, Marshall Logan-Green, Michael Fassbender, Idris Elba, Rafe Spall and the rest of the crew encounter in deep space. And yeah, things are not going to go well. At all. We really hope this trailer isn't dropping spoilers but at any rate, it's a must watch. One of the best pieces of marketing to arrive all year (ball is in your court, "The Dark Knight Rises").

"Prometheus" lands on June 8th. We can't wait.

anyone else know what the thing is at about 2 minits 25 seconds starting to stand up could it be the xenomorph and ridley is just saying no xeno's are in it to try and throw us off guard

    and here comes axe !

Badass trailer. I love Ridley Scott and I also loved A Good Year too few out there do but I thought that film was great I mean who doesn't love Marion Cotillard and russel Crowe in Provence. I can't wait to see Prometheus, going to be amazing.

So excited! this film is going to be incredible. I just watched the new Dark Knight rises trailer and it gave me chills however I am looking forward to this film more than any other blockbuster coming out this summer. I find this film more intriguing and I've wanted a prequel of sorts to Alien and the cast is too perfect in this film, too perfect. I'm going to be the first in line for this!!!!

  • Scott Free | April 30, 2012 4:04 AMReply

Looks utterly amazing BUT clearly selling short spoilers here. It pretty much reveals all the major plot points of the movie, no?!? Which is always a shame come movie night... Hopefully it's not gone a full mission impossible but still, I do wonder if this film really needed such a marketing sell out. Personally, I was intrigued enough already...

  • cirkusfolk | April 29, 2012 11:42 PMReply

You'll be eating these words come next Friday...fact!

  • cirkusfolk | April 30, 2012 9:36 AM

I was referring to the release of The Dark Knight Rises trailer...not The Avengers. I think they'll be singing a different tune once they see more footage from Chris Nolan's film. His trailers, especially Inception and The Dark Knight, have been beyond amazing. I used to watch them pretty much everyday until those films came out.

  • John | April 30, 2012 12:16 AM

Based on the advance reviews that have been coming in of "The Avengers," I think not.

  • rolf | April 29, 2012 8:52 PMReply

ROLFMAO! Half europe gets the film 3 months after :p

  • John V | April 29, 2012 8:04 PMReply

Sorry, wrong. Avengers will be the movie to beat. Not Batman, not Alien prequel. Not that both Batman and Prometheus won't be awesome, but Avengers will be the boot on the neck of every other movie this year. Don't fight it. Just accept it. Embrace it. It's like the law of gravity, it's not arguable, it

  • BOBY | April 30, 2012 3:51 AM

Avengers is pretty over-hyped and it is not the movie event of 2012. If it was, it would be a pretty bad year for cinema. Everybody got excited for it because there is a bad ass Hulk and thirty minutes of fight at the end.

But I also think that Prometheus will also be over-hyped. In 20 year, Scott only made forgettable movies, with one or two exceptions. I am not sure at all that things have changed. It won't be the first time that trailers are far more intense than the movie they sell, particularly in the cases of "Scott's movies".

Based on the advance reviews that have been coming in of "The Avengers," I think not.

Just watched it again with headphones. hmm actually it might be ait, this one..

  • Bakunin | April 29, 2012 7:08 PMReply

This looks glorious! However, I think Playlist is over-doing it by claiming Prometheus has overtaken TDKR in anticipation, TDKR is hands down considered by all the major film publications as the Summer's most awaited movie. Still, looks like Ridley Scott has finally returned to us!

  • ridley scrot | April 29, 2012 7:03 PMReply

Meh- may be in the minority here but this is not gona be that good I reckon. What are those snake like things? Give me face huggers any day. And all that ancient archelogical shizzle, booring. AVP did it, didn't work. Nah, TDKR looks loads better.

  • Sure | April 29, 2012 7:35 PM

Prometheus is intriguing unlike that Batman film. The best thing about the previous one was Heath Ledger. Now they can't make the audiance even convince of Bane and Catwoman.

  • Dudi | April 29, 2012 6:51 PMReply

Looks Awesome !!! Let's wait and see how this is going to come out when the full movie will be available on theatres on June !!! There r some rumors that this will be some kind a bridge between Alien and Blade Runner ??? (what the f***)

  • Rah-al | April 29, 2012 6:33 PMReply

  • Len Ramirez | April 29, 2012 6:08 PMReply

I look forward to every Ridley Scott film. Prometheus is a standout because I have been following it for some time. I think the entertainment value will out-do TDKR rather easily. The trailers for TDKR have done nothing for me.

  • DG | April 29, 2012 5:12 PMReply

Im still more pumped for TDKR but this looks really fucking good. I've been waiting for a sequel to The Dark Knight for 4 years though

  • i seriously hope you guys ross douthat | April 29, 2012 4:43 PMReply

Not watching any of the trailers. I mean, what could go wrong? It's Ridley freakin' Scott! And coming off "A Good Year", "American Gangster", that one with Leonardo DiCaprio that everyone just loved, and "Robin Hood", the guy is seriously on one hell of a roll. So excited!

  • Mark | April 30, 2012 10:09 AM

@Fr3kySnail: Nobody is questioning the quality of BLADE RUNNER, but the last 5 or 6 movies were... disapointing.

  • Fr3kySnail | April 29, 2012 9:07 PM

    Slight tinge of sarcasm.

The man does make visually beautiful films. Sometimes, it takes time for people to get on board. If I recall, #BladeRunner was a flop, and it took VHS for it to be discovered.

A true movie, of this ilk, is considered a work of art. You dont always appreciate the piece, but it forces passionate debate. That's all you can hope for as a Director, critical relevance.

  • Mark | April 29, 2012 8:54 PM

    Thumbs up for sarcasm! :-)

  • Glass | April 29, 2012 4:38 PMReply

I should just mail Fox $50 now as a down payment for all the times I'm gonna see this.

Makes Avatar look like a fookin' cartoon!

  • joe | April 29, 2012 4:31 PMReply

yea, why has tdkr been so quiet? i find it really strange.

  • Lane | April 29, 2012 7:37 PM

Caro: and TDRK isn't a reboot of Batman? Get a better argument.
The TDRK trailer looked like a montage of TDK and Inception.

  • caro | April 29, 2012 6:23 PM

TDKR will release in july in 3 months

i'm probably the one not excited by PROMETHEUS because it looks like a masked reboot of ALIEN

  • Nolan | April 29, 2012 5:20 PM

I wonder if the at least semi-negative (or maybe just underwhelmed) reaction to the first trailer has left WB a scrambling a little. Didn't Nolan go back already and make Bane's voice more audible?
