Watch: New Clip That Isn’t A Promotion From ‘Anchorman 2’ Plus Extended Look At ‘Spoils Of Babylon’

The Playlist By Charlie Schmidlin | The Playlist December 6, 2013 at 9:24AM

As we detailed yesterday with 15 examples, “Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues” moves forward with its pervasive (or as one could say, “annoying”) marketing prowess, utilizing underwear, ice cream, and automobiles as venues on which to slap Ron Burgundy’s face. Paramount hasn’t blocked their usual routes for promoting a film though, so we’ve got a pair of new clips—one from the Adam McKay-directed sequel, one as a holiday exclusive message, and also a look at a Funny Or Die-produced mockumentary starring Will Ferrell, Tobey Maguire, and Kristen Wiig.

The first clip sees a quick Ron Burgundy announcement wishing everyone a Happy Chanukah (“I haven’t partied this hard since Mardi Gras with Wilt Chamberlain”), but the second sees footage from the actual film. In it, Ron is confronted with an offer from an unrecognizable Dylan Baker, wishing him to head over to a new 24-hour news channel called GNN. After all the promotional hoopla, it’s nice to finally see and bit of what McKay, Ferrell and co. have in store when the film hits theatres this month on December 20th.

Also, we’ve got an extended eight-minute “behind-the-scenes” glimpse (via THR) at the Funny Or Die mockumentary “Spoils of Babylon," which purports to document the ambitious making of a miniseries in 1978; the key is here that all of the parts are played by Tobey Maguire, Kristen Wiig, Tim Robbins, Jessica Alba, and Ferrell, who plays Eric Jonrosh, the testy author of the novel on which the series is based. In all, the show looks like a promising effort emboldened by its game cast, but see for yourself below along with the two 'Anchorman' clips.

“Spoils of Babylon” premieres January 9th on IFC at 10 p.m.
