One of SXSW's small but pleasant surprises was haunted house horror “Oculus” (our review), which arrives on screens this spring. As we note in our review, haunted houses are having a bit of a moment thanks to “The Conjuring” and arguably “The Purge,” which isn't strictly about a haunted house but has some of the structural elements of those films.
Here therefore are a couple of promo pieces designed to whip you into a frenzy of fear over the film, which deals with a family's toxic relationship with a haunted mirror that has imperilled two generations, each of which (coincidentally? We think not) includes an actress from a beloved sci-fi TV franchise (“Battlestar Galactica” star Katee Sackhoff and “Doctor Who” thesp Karen Gillan). Ok, it might be a coincidence.
Anyway, check out the clips below – including a particularly nasty moment with a lightbulb – and see what you think. “Oculus” hits on April 11th.
