It's been a long while since Mike Leigh's "Another Year," but the veteran British auteur came back with a roar at Cannes this year with "Mr. Turner." The director's most ambitious and expensive film to date is both atypical (a period biopic concerning of artist J.M.W. Turner), and very much a Mike Leigh film (Turner is played by regular collaborator Timothy Spall). As our Cannes review revealed, it's one of the director's best.
The film has made its way to North America, screening at the Telluride Film Festival over the weekend, and onto the Toronto International Film Festival and the New York Film Festival in the coming weeks. And to mark its presence stateside, a new U.S. trailer has just debuted over at Apple.
Differing slightly from the prior clip for the UK, the trailer is a good indication of what to expect, both from Leigh's intimate, very personal epic, and from Spall's incredible performance. Sony Pictures Classics" will open "Mr. Turner" on December 19th, before rolling it out further in the new year. Check out the trailer below.
