There's a fair old gap between the world that we saw in 2011's "Rise Of The Planet Of the Apes'—basically like ours, but with more superintelligent primates—and the one that's been glimpsed in the footage so far from this summer's sequel, "Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes." Things, quite frankly, appear to have gone to shit, with San Francisco now an overgrown wilderness, and the few humans left forced back into, essentially, the dark ages.

If you were paying attention at the end of 'Rise,' you'll know that this came about due to a virus which makes the apes smarter, but the humans deader, but to refresh your memory, a new featurette/viral thing for the film over at MSN helps to fill in the gaps.

If you need your memory refreshing as to the film, meanwhile, it stars Andy Serkis, Judy Greer and Toby Kebbell as the three most prominent of the Apes, and Jason Clarke, Keri Russell, Kodi Smit-McPhee and Gary Oldman as some of the humans. Matt Reeves, who did "Cloverfield" and "Let Me In," is directing, and the film continues to be our most anticipated blockbuster of the summer. It hits theaters on July 11th.
