Once again, it looks like we're turning to television to give this kind of rich, layered and complex drama the movies don't always often provide (or not in the abundance we'd like). Earlier this year, many on The Playlist staff sang the praise of Jane Campion's mini-series "Top Of The Lake" (don't be surprised if it crops up on more than one top ten list at the end of the year) and now there's one more mini we have on our eye on, thanks to a powerful new trailer.

Granted, we always were keeping "Southcliffe" on our radar based on the talent alone. It comes from "Martha Marcy May Marlene" helmer Sean Durkin, and he rounds up a crack cast of character actors --  Eddie Marsan (“Sherlock Holmes," “Happy Go Lucky”), Shirley Henderson ("Harry Potter"’s Moaning Myrtle), Rory Kinnear (“Quantum of Solace”), Sean Harris (“Prometheus”), Joe Dempsie (“Game of Thrones”), Kaya Scodelario (“Wuthering Heights”), Nichola Burley (“Donkey Punch”), Anatol Yusef (“Boardwalk Empire”) -- to tell the story of the fallout that affects a small English town that is left rocked and shaken after a series of shootings take place over one day. "Red Riding” scribe Tony Grisoni penned the screenplay.

This new preview promises some compelling, raw stuff so we'll be eagerly waiting for it to cross over to our shores. But the four-part drama will first air on Channel 4 in the U.K. later this year.
