Earlier this year, we saw Steven Soderbergh revitalize the aging erotic thriller genre with "Side Effects," a pretty nifty and pulpy take on the kinds of poitboilers we don't really get much of anymore. Or don't we? In just a couple of months you'll be able to undo the top few buttons of your shirt, metaphorically or literally, when Brian De Palma's "Passion" arrives, and a new trailer is here to take you into the film's sexy and murderous dance.

Starring Rachel McAdams and Noomi Rapace, the story follows the friendly, trusting and sometimes flirty relationship between boss/employee that takes a turn for the lurid when their personal affairs and corporate ladder climbing clash. It's very much a b-movie, but whether or not it works...that depends on who you ask. Critics were a bit split on this one when it ran through the fall festival circuit last year, but these two actresses playing against type should be worth a watch anyway.

"Passion" goes VOD on August 1st and arrives in theaters on August 30th. Watch below. [Noomi Rapace Online]

    watch it!

I think this is the worst film he's ever made. And I'm a pretty big De Palma fan. The first hour is excruciating, and the last half hour feels like a worn-out rehash of stuff he did ten times better 30-40 years ago.

+1 Bobby. Passion is not a bad movie. It's not his best one, but clearly not his worst.

RNL : I said "To me". You can completely disagree with my opinion. Yes, I think I prefer watching "Mission to Mars" over "Femme Fatale", but I still like them both (and I enjoy almost every Brian de Palma's movies). I also think "Passion" is actually underated and that it will be watch with much more interest in the futur. 80% of Brian De Palma's films has been laughed by critics, and sometimes by the audience, when they were released for the first time.

I agree! Passion is a terrible, terrible movie!

Femme Fatale wasn't better than Mission to Mars? Really?

I disagree. To me, Passion is his best film since Snake Eyes. And it is his first film since Carlito's Way to be better than the previous one.
