Easily, hands down, the best movie I saw at TIFF this year, and already with a place reserved on my Best Of 2013, Derek Cianfrance's "The Place Beyond The Pines" is, as I wrote in my review, "a brilliant, towering picture." And yes, that quote has been surprisingly pulled for the trailer. And yes, this latest reunion between "Blue Valentine" helmer Cianfrance and Ryan Gosling is a knockout.

The first trailer for the movie is here, and don't be worried, there are no plot spoilers contained within. Instead, it's a perfectly evocative look at the story which centers on Gosling's lead Luke, who learns he's a single father and takes to bank robbing to support his child in what is the start of a drama that spans decades and changes the course of two families. It's an epic saga, the kind they don't really make anymore, and it's a terrific accomplishment boasting a solid supporting group of players, including Bradley Cooper (giving another great turn), Eva Mendes, Ben Mendelsohn, Ray Liotta, Dane DeHaan and more.

"The Place Beyond The Pines" hits theaters on March 29, 2013. Watch below.

Awesome! I've been anticipating Cianfrance and Goslings' next collaborative feature. This film seems like a ferocious yet subtle narrative similar to Winding Refn's previous cinematic entries, specifically Drive and Pusher II. Although this film evokes a much more tragic sense of moral urgency.

So was the film anywhere near this good? Because this trailer is AWESOME, but I haven't heard any exceptional reviews of it.

A terrific looking trailer. Its a shame the director dragged this film out for a 2013 release and not 2012 where it could compete for the Oscars. It looks that good!

Looks great, what's the name of the last song they use in this trailer?

  • Sadie | December 22, 2012 9:32 AMReply

    looks fucking awesome

  • Yaha | December 22, 2012 2:19 AMReply

    Looks stellar

  • JOHN | December 22, 2012 12:05 AMReply

One of my favorites at TIFF as well. Can't wait for people to see this one.

  • Sean | December 21, 2012 11:55 PMReply

I remember u raving about this when TIFF was going down. SOO sick you guys are quoted CONGRATZ to the entire PLAYLIST family. Cant wait to see this. Gosling looks like in Top Form & Cooper as well, also surprisingly Mendes looks above her low averag (which has to be in part of our director/writer) Great posting!

  • Leah | December 21, 2012 10:36 PMReply

Wow, this looks amazing. Very cool that you guys are quoted in the trailer.

  • DG | December 21, 2012 7:44 PMReply

Fuck yeah I've been waiting for this, looks awesome. You guys got multiple critics quotes too. Also are you planning a most anticipated feature for 2013? I'd read that, just saying...

Feels like Drive combined with We Own the Night. Probably because of Gosling and Mendes...

  • James | December 21, 2012 5:34 PMReply

Love everything but fugly and lacking talent Mendes!

  • spassky | December 28, 2012 11:29 AM

You cray cray. She's gorgeous and her talents have simply never been exploited to their full extent (unfortunately all too common for beautiful actresses). Seriously, fugly? You cray.

Saw it at TIFF, GREAT first half, second half was abysmal though.

  • bohmer | December 21, 2012 5:27 PMReply

That look really good! Can't wait!

  • jon | December 21, 2012 5:25 PMReply

Love the use of SUICIDE in this.

  • spassky | December 28, 2012 11:26 AM

Suicide is seriously underused in films. Great use of "Che" here.

Leonardo: nah, it's the music at the beginning.

  • Leonardo | December 23, 2012 7:13 AM

is that the name of the music at the end?
