Watch: Sam Worthington Gets Wet In Trailer For Surfing Drama 'Drift'

The world of surfing movies isn't really all that big, and "Point Break" aside, it isn't all that popular either. Remember this fall's "Chasing Mavericks"? Yeah, we nearly forgot it hit theaters and like most things involving Gerard Butler these days, audiences didn't seem to care about it at all. But can an unshaven and shaggy Sam Worthington change the tide?

The world of surfing movies isn't really all that big, and "Point Break" aside, it isn't all that popular either. Remember this fall's "Chasing Mavericks"? Yeah, we nearly forgot it hit theaters and like most things involving Gerard Butler these days, audiences didn't seem to care about it at all. But can an unshaven and shaggy Sam Worthington change the tide?

The "Avatar" star leads "Drift," an Aussie drama set on the waves that follows the Kelly brothers as they start a new life in a remote Australian coastal town. New in town, they come up against suspicious locals, killer waves and ruthless bikers as they struggle to kick-start a new business based on surfing, their greatest passion. Worthington isn't one of the leads, instead taking a supporting role as photographer/filmmaker JB with Xavier Samuel and Myles Pollard playing Jimmy and Andy Kelly.

All told, this spot looks solid, if a bit unremarkable, even if the surf setting is a bit unique. Co-directors Morgan O'Neill (the guy behind the still unreleased and MIA John Cusack vehicle "The Factory") and Ben Nott certainly make this at least look pretty beautiful, capturing the waves and coastline with the big screen treatment it deserves. No release date yet, but Wrekin Hill will bring "Drift" to North America next year. [Deadline]
