Jalil Lespert, perhaps best known for acting in such French films as “Human Resources” and Guillaume Canet’s “Tell No One,” has recently finished co-writing and directing “Yves Saint Laurent” and a subtitled teaser trailer for the film has just been released. The film stars Pierre Niney as the titular fashion designer and takes place circa 1958 when Yves Saint Laurent was working as the head designer for Christian Dior. Guillaume Galliene (“Marie-Antoinette”) plays Pierre Berge, Yves’s lifelong lover and business partner.

Interestingly enough, there’s actually a second film currently being made that’s also about the life of Yves Saint Laurent, Bertrand Bonello’s “Saint Laurent.” While “Yves Saint Laurent” depicts YSL as he first enters the fashion world, the latter film will examine the fashion designer at the height of his career during the ‘60s and ‘70s. That film is expected to come out in May 2014, while Jalil Lespert’s film is already set to be released in France on January 8th. “Yves Saint Laurent” has also been picked up by The Weinstein Company stateside and its production company, SND, is hoping to get more international buyers at this week’s American Film Market. Either way, if you are interested in learning about YSL’s life, and you hate to read, then 2014 is your lucky year. Check out the spot below. [Deadline]
