Review: 'The Immigrant'From filmmaker Jacob Aaron Estes ("Mean Creek"), this pricey Sundance acquistion from 2011 (Harvey paid $8 million bones for it, for real) has been sitting on the shelf for a while, and it certainly doesn't look like the most mass audience-appealing pic. Tobey Maguire stars as a doctor in suburban Seattle whose raccoon problem, infidelity and other woes send his life and marriage spiralling out of control. And you know, this actually looks pretty compelling, and it's certainly been a while since we had this kind of surreal, black comedy, so we have to admit we're curious, even if the long shelflife isn't the best augur of things.
Co-starring Elizabeth Banks, Laura Linney, Kerry Washington, Ray Liotta and Dennis Haysbert, "The Details" opens in limited release on November 2nd. Trailer below.

Sounds like this cut is pretty different from the one that screened at Sundance.

"And it's certainly been a while since we had this kind of surreal, black comedy" -- uh Young Adult was just last year.
