Ooh, the pendulum has swung back over to Universal in the battle of Snow White movies, with the studio first out of the gate with a trailer for "Snow White And The Huntsman." And you know what? It looks pretty damn impressive.

Directed by Ruper Sanders and starring Chris Hemsworth, Kristen Stewart, Charlize Theron, Sam Clafin, Lily Cole and Sam Spruell, the film is a retelling of the classic fairy tale in which the woodsman (Hemsworth), who is meant to bump off the titular princess (Stewart), winds up training her instead to fight her evil stepmother (Theron). It's going to be bit more of a serious take on the story than Tarsem's kiddie-driven "Mirror Mirror," which easily explains the darker, heavier tone in the trailer. Theron looks like she's loving every minute as the baddie, playing the evil queen with some sexy panache. Hemsworth still seems to be in Thor mode (though, it's effective), and as for Stewart? Well, Bella fans might be a bit bummed because there's not much of her in this spot, though the brief instances of her wearing armor and wielding a sword are promising. The special effects look solid, the scope is there, so yeah, as far as first impressions go, so far, so good.

"Snow White And The Huntsman" will ask you to look in the mirror on June 1, 2012.

Wow, looking great! I love Charlize Theron, but what's up with the accent? She doesn't really pull it off :( Will Kirsten speak with a British accent as well? Lets hope not... I will see this. I will NOT se Mirror, Mirror (frankly it looks like a joke).

I'm impressed (I guess) by the look of the film and its effects so far, but definitely not original or breathtaking . I love Theron, but just talking slowly with a British accent doesn't necessarily convey evil to just seems like lazy directing. As far as the plot....Yawn.

Well it's a teaser trailer , eventually we will see a fuller one later on . From what I see so far it looks very good . Can't wait for it ... People should really lighten up on the Kristen Stewart negativity , really it does get tired after a while , don't know why some people still go on about that ... Please find another scapegoat to complaint about this topic is so done !!!!! Let's move for chrissake people!!!!

so is the queen the main character? snow white doesn't even say anything. is that a good thing or bad?

  • Kelly | November 10, 2011 7:23 PMReply

Wow! I didn't think I would like this film but this trailer makes me want to see it now! Charlize is badass! I like the effects! Yummy huntsman! I will see this!

  • StephenM | November 10, 2011 5:21 PMReply

Wow, I actually liked that, which I wasn't expecting. It may be silly and over-serious in the end, but the effects and overall look of the thing are great.

Nice to see (actually, hear) that the music from Inception's trailer is already being recycled! The film looks a lot more interesting than I thought it would be when I first read about it.

  • cirkusfolk | November 10, 2011 4:18 PM

I noticed that too. So we first had ever trailer using Inception's actual score, the BRUM BRUM, and now we have trailers using it's trailer music. I still wished that piece was in the actual movie. It has a life of its own now.

Not totally convinced the gritty/unsmiling approach to Snow White is the way to go. Makes me think of Ridley's Robin Hood, and how ridiculous and boring people thought that was.

I respect Rupert Sanders (that "Spaces In Between" music video is dope), and I love Charlize, but I'm not counting out Mirror Mirror yet.

  • marcus | November 10, 2011 3:44 PM

I think Mirror Mirror is going to have a wider demo to pull from. Family films can "flop" and still do better than moderately successful action/drama films. I don't see many parents bringing their 7-year old daughters to this, and that's chopping off a big portion of the fairy tale audience right from the start.

    "The Space In Between"**

  • Travis Hopson | November 10, 2011 2:39 PMReply

    Well that didn't take long.

  • KT | November 10, 2011 2:20 PMReply

    ... Hmmm...

  • marcus | November 10, 2011 2:03 PMReply

Trying to hide something here, Universal?

  • Evelyn | November 10, 2011 2:02 PMReply

Why no seven dwarves in the trailer? Snow White and the Huntsman will be better than Mirror, Mirror because it has the stronger cast and it will be at least be the more critically successful movie. In addition, unlike Mirror, Mirror, the Queen in this film looks like an evil villain.

  • Yeah right | November 10, 2011 4:30 PM

They are hiding Quasimodo, sorry I meant Stewart. What genius had the idea to put the stoner Valley girl who can barely string a coherent sentence as the fairest in the land opposed Charlize?

  • Sherri | November 10, 2011 3:44 PM

The dwarves require a lot of CGI as they are being digitially shrinked. The film is still in production so there was no time for that. I except the final trailer to be a knockout.

  • Soph | November 10, 2011 2:40 PM

The dwarves are in the trailer.

  • Ben | November 10, 2011 2:21 PM

HaHa, true, Julia Roberts looks like a clown in those stills.

  • half baked | November 10, 2011 2:02 PMReply

looks alright...looks like Charlize is the star and not Kristen........which is good

  • jeremy | November 10, 2011 5:07 PM

She's been filming since August. Lack of footage would not be the issue. Charlize and Hemsworth are the ones who have had much busier schedules and have been filming off and on.

  • tracy | November 10, 2011 3:43 PM

They're still only halfway done filming and Kristen hasnt been on set as much because she's doing promo for Twilight. I imagine the final trailer will show more of Snow White. She's in nearly every scene.

  • Ben | November 10, 2011 2:00 PMReply

Looks great, never thought i would be into the Snow White story but seeing it like this it actually seems like a decent plot! Charlize and Kristen are not bad on the eyes either

  • lola | November 10, 2011 1:50 PMReply

    Love the mirror!

  • dane | November 10, 2011 4:32 PM

Stewart looks like a dude, who finds that attractive?

  • J | November 10, 2011 2:48 PM

The mirror and that orc creature were awesome!
