Icelandic director Baltasar Kormákur and Mark Wahlberg must have hit it off during "Contraband," because when David O. Russell shifted his interests away from the project "2 Guns," Kormákur quickly filled the vacated director's chair. Coming via Universal Pictures this summer, "2 Guns" centers on a DEA agent (Washington) and an undercover Naval Intelligence officer (Wahlberg) who have been tasked with investigating one another until they discover they have been set up by the mob -- the very organization the two men believe they have been stealing money from. While we're at it, a new trailer has arrived.

In the meantime, here's the long-form synopsis:
Academy Award® winner Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg lead an all-star cast in 2 Guns, an explosive action film that tracks two operatives from competing bureaus who are forced on the run together. But there is a big problem with their unique alliance: Neither knows that the other is an undercover federal agent. For the past 12 months, DEA agent Bobby Trench (Washington) and U.S. naval intelligence officer Marcus Stigman (Wahlberg) have been reluctantly attached at the hip. Working undercover as members of a narcotics syndicate, each man distrusts his partner as much as the criminals they have both been tasked to take down. When their attempt to infiltrate a Mexican drug cartel and recover millions goes haywire, Trench and Stigman are suddenly disavowed by their superiors. Now that everyone wants them in jail or in the ground, the only person they can count on is the other. Unfortunately for their pursuers, when good guys spend years pretending to be bad, they pick up a few tricks along the way.

And the trailer? Well, it looks just as generic as "Contraband" frankly, with a little bit of odd couple-comedy, but it's a no "Pain & Gain" mix of dumb action and comedy, that's for sure. Your thoughts? We're not sold, but maybe the chemistry is better in non-generic trailers? Co-starring Paula Patton, Bill Paxton, Fred Ward, James Marsden and Edward James Olmos, "2 Guns" will fire off in theaters on August 2. A new poster below as well.

Films looks really generic and dull. Plus I feel like I've already seen it with this 3 minute trailer.

    what the fuck, Denzel?
    also: dreadful straight-to-video poster.

Disheartening after Flight to see Denzel in a routine,
non challenging role. Contraband was lame. This looks
to be on the same level.

Looks like a fun one time watch. Matinee price. But since when did trailers become 3 MINUTES LONG?!

Yeah, this looks standard fare...which means it stands a chance of being a hit.

    Ditto. Terrible poster.

Dunno, looks like a fun late summer programmer - and better than Contraband, which was definitely mediocre.

Agreed. Looks much better than Contraband. The chemistry between the leads seems strong. I may have a soft spot for bank robber movies though.
