The doc is about the eponymous Van Nuys recording studio in Los Angeles, which played host to many a legendary rock act before it closed down in May last year after failing to keep up with new technologies. If you’d like a more comprehensive list of the bands that recorded there then, well, just watch the trailer. That’s kinda the thrust of things. It looks like there are almost as many famous musicians popping up as talking heads here (including Grohl himself) as frequented the studio, and we might be in for a treat with many of those musicians appearing to be performing live music in the documentary.
In fact, a whole soundtrack of original music has been created just for the film (or as part of the film?). “In this age of technology, where you can manipulate anything, how do we retain that human element?” asks Grohl in the trailer, and it looks like we might be about to find out. If Grohl’s half as good a filmmaker as he is a musician then this could potentially be a future hit outside of the festival circuit based on the names involved alone. Even if the trailer for the film doesn’t particularly get you excited, surely the prospect an original soundtrack from some of those faces in the trailer will. Watch below. [Deadline]
