Somewhere in the executive offices over at Universal, someone said something along these lines: "You know what property we really need to maximize? 'Jarhead.' " And so they did just that, deciding to make a follow-up to the 2005 movie, that isn't a sequel, so much as a movie "inspired" by the Sam Mendes film. And though this trailer dropped a while ago, it's just caught our attention now and we can't be the only ones to bear witness to this.
Directed by Don Michael Paul ("Sniper: Legacy," "Lake Placid: The Final Chapter") and starring Josh Kelly, Cole Hauser, Bookeem Woodbine, Esai Morales, Stephen Lang and a bunch of other people, this one combines cheap locations and alt-rawk rhythmz for one testosterone-fueled experience. Here's the synopsis: Battle-scarred and disillusioned by the war, Corporal Chris Merriman is put in charge of a unit whose next mission is to resupply a remote outpost on the edge of Taliban-controlled territory. While driving through the hostile Helmand province, a Navy SEAL flags down their convoy and enlists the unit on an operation of international importance: they must help an Afghan woman famous for her defiance of the Taliban escape the country. Without tanks or air support, Merriman and his team will need all the courage and firepower they can muster to fight their way across the war-torn country and shepherd the woman to safety.
Anyway, this hits DVD and Blu-ray in R and Unrated versions on August 19th. And what's next down the line? "Away We Go Again"? "Revolutionary Road: Tokyo Drift"? (Hat tip to Oli for those). We can't wait to see what random catalog title gets a needless sequel next.
