Next summer is, as usual, going to be competitive; there's the usual mix of superhero sequels ("
Iron Man 3," "
The Wolverine"), animated sequels ("
Monsters University,""
Despicable Me 2"), R-rated comedy sequels ("
The Hangover Part III") and just general sequels ("
Star Trek Into Darkness," "
Fast & Furious 6," "
Kick-Ass 2"). As such, original fare is going to have a trickier time of it, but
Summit is getting started early with their magician heist movie "
Now You See Me," debuting a trailer in front of their golden goose "
Twilight" this weekend.
And now that trailer has made its way online to
Yahoo (via
The Moviebox), and you can start to see why the studio is feeling so bullish about the movie. As you can discover from the clip, the film, directed by
Louis Leterrier ("
Clash of the Titans") involves a quartet of magicians (
Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Isla Fisher and
Dave Franco) who seemingly rob a French bank live on stage in Las Vegas.
Mark Ruffalo and
Melanie Laurent are the law enforcement types after them,
Michael Caine is the owner of the bank and seemingly a villain, and
Morgan Freeman is... it's slightly unclear, but possibly a magical consultant? Or something?
Anyway, it's a cracking cast, and all look to be in good form, while Leterrier's direction is as slick as you'd expect. And the teaser effectively sells a mystery that seems to land somewhere between
Spike Lee's "
Inside Man" and "
The Prestige," and we're certainly intrigued enough to get us through the door, even if we've got some doubts about some of the levels of CGI. Watch the trailer below, and find out how the trick is done when "Now You See Me" hits theaters on June 7th, 2013.

Looks awesome! I love Laurent too and with Freeman, Caine & Ruffalo I'm definitely gonna see this and Louis Letterier is a pretty good director.

Looks interesting, and there is no need to compare it with The Prestige, this is completely something different - it looks more commercial, it doesn't have Chris Nolan behind the camera but it has the guy who made Clash of The Titans - can yo dig it now !!! ;-)

That's cool Melanie Laurent is also in this. Like Jesse Eisenberg's looks style, and his scenes with Mark Ruffalo.

Yeah, I'll pass... outside of Woody Harrelson, none of the other magicians/robbers seems believable in their roles, especially Eisenberg. I remember reading the script for this a long while back and I can't believe this is the quartet they chose... seems very, I don't know, unbelievable.

The interrogated magician cuffing the cop to the table is DIRECTLY stolen from the Prestige

Did not expect the film to have that tone at all. I feel like it should be called something else...
