Watch: Trailer For Steven Soderbergh's 'Magic Mike' With Matthew McConaughey & Channing Tatum

Delivering the virus thriller "Contagion" last year, kicking off 2012 with the lean Euro-flavored actioner "Haywire" and now lensing the psychological thriller "The Bitter Pill," Steven Soderbergh's ability and eagerness to jump from genre to genre is no surprise. But even his die hard fans were surprised by his decision to helm "Magic Mike." And now the first trailer has arrived to give everyone a taste of what he's been putting togther.

Boasting a hunky cast led by Channing Tatum, Matthew McConaughey and Alex Pettyfer, the film is the brainchild of Tatum who is also producing and conceived of the story based on his own experiences as a male stripper. Penned by Reid Carolin, "Magic Mike" is the name of an experienced stripper (Tatum) who teaches a younger dancer (Pettyfer) how to hustle his wares on stage and off at the exotic club Xquisite, run by Dallas (McConaughey). Magic Mike is also eager to get out of the game and focus on his custom design business.

We're told the film is a big crowd-pleaser -- for the ladies and dudes -- and the trailer certainly points in that direction. It's definintely the most mainstream effort Soderbergh has put together in years, but the framing and lensing still carries his trademark. That said, this is a whole different rhythm from the director, another testament to his abilities to move, shift and adapt from project to project. And across the board, the cast looks game and engaging as hell.

Co-starring Matt Bomer, Joe Manganiello, Gabriel Igelsias, Olivia Munn, Riley Keough, Betsy Brandt, Wendi McLendon-Covey and Cody Horn, "Magic Mike" opens on June 29th. Watch below or in HD at Apple.

While I am very much looking forward to seeing this, the trailer is pretty bad. At least after the 50 second mark when it becomes a series of short, uninteresting bits of dialogue between Channing Tatum and the girl he presumably falls for. If we could just, yah know, cut out all the talking - that would be nice.

Sorry, but this looks crap. Luckily it also looks like a blatant marketing ploy and I really doubt it's the feel good rom com it's being sold as here.

Yall need to get over the fact that a movie made by a certain filmmaker can be interesting BECAUSE of the filmmaker. If this was some Robert Luketic studio turd, I wouldn't even click on this page. But a filmmaker I subscribe to and constantly check on, doing this kind of a story with this cast? I'm cheggin it. The trailer's godawful, but I can see past the generic trailer formula and "We Found Love" playing for what I'm looking for.

The Playlist is always on Soderbergh's junk, they love him. I think he's a good director, but this doesn't look very good. Let's hope the movie actually turns out well.

They definitely LOVE him but i just cant believe they did this write-up without having a single issue with the trailer, whether it be the Nicolas Sparks level dialogue, the of-the-moment Rihanna pop song, or the classic Channing Tatum pier leaping shot. Nodda. All that was awesome i guess.

What the hell is going on at The Playlist lately? This trailer is bathed in like 7 shades of yellow, has awful dialogue, and has a Rihanna song blasting over it. And you're all "It looks engaging as hell!"

Not surprised though to see Cody Horn is all over the trailer. Being the daughter of Warner Brothers Entertainment President & COO Alan F. Horn has it's perks.

The trailer makes it seems like the film is built on the romance between Tatum and Horn and not the relationship between Tatum and Pettyfer
