You'll be getting our review from the Berlin Film Festival on "Bel Ami" soon, but until then, the jury is still out on the latest non-"Twilight" venture for Robert Pattinson, one that finds him scruffing up his tween sweetheart image to play a character that he describes as "a shit."
Right now, it sucks to be an RPatz fan in North America because this movie is still without a release date, but for all you Edward fans in the U.K., the wait is nearly over. With the film headed to theaters next month, a new TV spot with brief bits of new footage and a handful of images are here to tide you over until opening day. As you already know, the film is based on the book by Guy de Maupassant, co-stars Uma Thurman, Kristin Scott Thomas and Christina Ricci, and will find Pattinson playing George Duroy, an opportunistic social climber in turn-of-the-century Paris, who seduces his way to wealth and fame from a poor beginning. Basically, women are just different rungs on the ladder on his way the top. (The cad!)
The TV spot is frankly awful (what is up with that voiceover?) but the actual footage continues to be...not terrible, though we're still waiting on a verdict for the movie as a whole. Meanwhile, the pics from MovieWeb and Facebook at least suggest the costume design department was working with a reasonable budget. "Bel Ami" hits theaters in the U.K. on March 9th.
