While the film has been making its way through numerous different film festivals over the past year, “Berberian Sound Studio” is finally hitting theaters in the US this summer. Written and directed by Peter Strickland and starring Toby Jones, the film has received many positive notices, including one of our own, calling it “as original and absorbing a picture as we’ve seen in a while.”
“Berberian Sound Studio” takes place at a point that might be the 1970s, or might not be, where a British sound technician (Jones) is brought to Italy to work on the sound effects for a gruesome horror film called “The Equestrian Vortex”. Soon, the technician’s job slowly takes over his psyche, forcing him to confront his own past. Soon, the line between what’s real and what’s in the film becomes very thin. A good psychological thriller is becoming increasingly difficult to find these days so this will definitely be one to look out for.
“Berberian Sound Studio” will be released in theaters and on VOD/iTunes on June 14th. Check out the trailer below.
