Yeah, we know. It's been exactly 0.5 seconds since the last "The Dark Knight Rises" update, but we both know that the movie can't get here soon enough, so let's just get on with it.

Nothing too earth-shattering in terms of revelations today. While it has been long rumored/reported that Christopher Nolan's final chapter in his Batman saga was going to run well over two and half hours long, and that has been made official now. According to the The British Board of Film Classification, the movie runs 164 minutes and 27 seconds -- yes, longer than both "Batman Begins" (140 minutes) and "The Dark Knight" (152 minutes). In other words, it's 2 hours, 44 minutes and change, which is pretty fucking long (so you might want to forget about that jumbo soda). Meanwhile, a predictably bland synopsis has dropped, with nothing in the way of spoilers which you can read below (via Collider):

It has been eight years since Batman vanished into the night, turning, in that instant, from hero to fugitive. Assuming the blame for the death of D.A. Harvey Dent, the Dark Knight sacrificed everything for what he and Commissioner Gordon both hoped was the greater good. For a time the lie worked, as criminal activity in Gotham City was crushed under the weight of the anti-crime Dent Act.

But everything will change with the arrival of a cunning cat burglar with a mysterious agenda. Far more dangerous, however, is the emergence of Bane, a masked terrorist whose ruthless plans for Gotham drive Bruce out of his self-imposed exile. But even if he dons the cape and cowl again, Batman may be no match for Bane.

Finally, if you want a peek behind the tech involved in the IMAX presentation of the movie, the dudes at the Liberty Science Center in Jersey City, New Jersey -- which boasts the biggest IMAX screen in the country -- take you on a little tour to show how the magic happens. The comparison in negative size between 70mm and plain ol' 35mm should be enough to convince you to see this in IMAX. That, and the fact that it will feature close to an hour of footage in the format. Watch below.

Speaking of the IMAX, does anyone know if the total price for the Dark Knight marathon will go towards the box office of The Dark Knight Rises? Mine cost 32 bucks which is 20 more than the usual 12 the IMAX costs. Also, the theater isn't selling any individual tickets for the midnight IMAX show and said the studio is making them sell the marathon only. Of course they will still sell out an I think that's the whole idea. Nice little way to boost your midnight gross I'd say. Who needs 3d now?

There's two kinds of film geeks now: those that shit and jizz their pants while watching that IMAX featurette, and those who lol at what an archaic pain-in-the-ass that whole system is just to watch a movie. I'm so on the fence about it. I love the quality and the spectacle of all of that, but jesus christ it's like watching a Warner Bros. puff piece from 1987 about the magic of film projection. Can we just get those Monstro 29k digital cameras goin so these guys can just open a file on the projector screen and hit play?
