It seems as if the hype has been building for months, but next week, DreamWorks will finally put its fall blockbuster contender "Real Steel" in the ring and it will be up for audiences to decide if they want to go toe-to-toe with a movie about robot boxing.
Starring Hugh Jackman, Dakota Goyo, Anthony Mackie, Evangeline Lilly, Kevin Durand, Hope Davis, James Rebhorn and Olga Fonda, the film is set in the near future where 2,000-pound robots do battle in the ring while controlled by iPad-like devices by human handlers. The story centers on a father-son team (Jackman/Goyo) training an unusual robot to win a boxing championship after Jackman’s fall from glory as an actual human boxer. The studio has been feeling very confident about the film, already putting a sequel into development which Shawn Levy confirmed to us he's already set to direct. These 7 clips from the movie are about as extensive a taste as you're going to get before seeing "Real Steel" yourself. They do a good job of setting up the world in which this takes place but we're not quite seeing the rousing, triumphant vibe that we've been hearing about, but again, that may also be because that's all third act stuff.
Anyway, "Real Steel" puts on the gloves on October 7th. Watch below.
