Michael Winterbottom works very fast, but don't think he skimps on production values. Even though the film was shot on location in Jaipur, India earlier this year, Winterbottom has it all locked up and ready to premiere at TIFF next month, and we have to admit, we weren't expecting this.

The trailer has arrived for "Trishna" and it's lush, deeply romantic and beautifully shot. Winterbottom's longtime cinematographer Marcel Zyskind is the man responsible for some of the truly great work here, and that equally standout music comes courtesy of Indian film composer Amit Trivedi, who wrote original songs for the film, with the pic also boasting a fresh score by Shigeru Umebayashi. But despite all the gorgeous imagery on hand, this one will end in tragedy. An adaptation of Thomas Hardy‘s novel, “Tess of the d’Urbervilles” (obviously updated and relocated), the film will tell the story of the doomed relationship between Jay (Riz Ahmed) and Trishna (Freida Pinto), the former the son of a property developer, the latter the daughter of an auto rickshaw owner.

With literally hundreds of films bumping each other for attention on the festival circuit, it's an uphill battle to get smaller films to stand out, but this trailer will certainly have many more eyes curious to take a peek at "Trishna." Check it out below.

Love Amit Trivedi. Great talent. The only reason I will probably not watch this is because Frieda Pinto really can't act.

That song is beautiful. Amit Trivedi is very talented so I'm looking forward to his work on this. Winterbottom is hit and miss for me but when he's good, he's really good.

Oh look! She's working 15 jobs. Is that a thing from "Tess..."? Otherwise good trailer. Amit Trivedi is the man. Great to see him get work like this

Winterbottom is fond of his Hardy adaptations - this is his third after "Jude" and "The Claim".
