In just a couple of days, "Transformers: The Dark Of The Moon" will swoop over multiplexes worldwide delivering loads of robot smashing fury, but for us, the most anticipated moment of that film will happen even before it begins. The trailer for the franchise sequel/refresh of sorts "Mission: Impossible -- Ghost Protocol" will be unveiled in front of the Michael Bay film, and if this (curiously well shot) bootleg of the French version is anything to go by, it looks pretty damn great.

Even after a couple lacklustre sequels, 'Ghost Protocol' is stacked with reasons why we're eager to check this out. First off, Brad Bird is making is live action feature directing debut after wowing critics and audiences with "The Iron Giant," "The Incredibles" and "Ratatouille." And Tom Cruise has surrounded himself with a knockout cast including Jeremy Renner (looking right at home here) who might take over the franchise along with Paula Patton, Josh Holloway, Ving Rhames and Simon Pegg as the good guys, with Michael Nyqvist, Anil Kapoor, Lea Seydoux and Vladimir Mashkov (”Behind Enemy Lines”) as the villains. If all that isn't enough, some of sequences in the film have been shot in IMAX.

"Mission: Impossible -- Ghost Protocol" will hit theaters on December 16th, 2011. Check out the leaked version below before it gets yanked; a nice, crispy HD English version is expected to land very, very soon. [Whiteblog]

WTF are you talking about Flanagan? Confusing.

Trailer is a go. Brad Bird and Jeremy Renner sounds great to me!

Why the heck would you want him to transition into live-action full time? A world without animated films by Brad Bird sounds very hellish.

This trailer is just yes. Yes please.

yaaaaaaay. I'm actually really excited for this. Mission Impossible III was terrific, although the ending was slightly disappointing in ending up as a brawl in a grimy hospital rather than something more visually interesting and insane. But hell yes Jeremy Renner! And Simon Pegg returns. I'm a little disappointed Michelle Monaghan isn't in this, though. I guess they'll have to mention that either Ethan's marriage broke up, or she's just not involved at all in the events of the film. Also obviously I'm rooting for Brad Bird. If this is successful, he can transition into live action filmmaking full-time, and do wonderful things.

A all-star moments of MI1, MI2, MI3. Atmosphere mi1, hair mi2 and sequences action mi3. And Renner look like Tom Cruise in Collateral. Disappointment.

is Cruise leaping off the Church of Scientology in those last shots?

If there's no teamwork I don't care. Cruise jumping off shit so people don't think he's a you know what in real life is getting old.

Bird, to me , will go down as the best popcorn movie director of his generation. He and JJ Abrams give me faith in better films being pushed out by the studios.

This looks much more old-school than I expected, and that's a good thing. Plus some scenes are very reminiscent of The Incredibles, so Bird's touch is definitely there.
