A longer version of the international teaser for "Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes" has arrived and it's basically the most expensive PETA ad ever produced.

Starring James Franco, Freida Pinto, John Lithgow, Andy Serkis and Brian Cox, this newest trailer spends its first half almost as a remake of "Project Nim," as Caesar lives and plays with humans. But not everything remains peachy as one day he freaks the fuck out and surges out of the house to beat the shit out of somebody who dared to yell at this surrogate Daddy played by Lithgow. But this cannot stand and Caesar winds up living in horrible conditions with some other apes under the ruthless care of Cox and the next thing you know riot police are involved.

Yep, it still looks pretty awful, but check out the spot below. ROTPOTA hits on August 5th. [The Sun]

Call me crazy but Im looking forward to the Rise of the Apes. Granted Franco looks like he's the worst thing in it ("we call it .... the cure" LOL) but Lithgow is the man and the story is a good one if done right.

But true, Franco's been having a bit of a terrble year..

I think he'll be fine. I actually really enjoyed Your Highness - thought it was great dumb fun. And Apes may still surprise us and make some money. I saw a preview for this recently at a packed theater and the audience was really into it. But yeah, it looks like a disaster. Either way, he has a million other projects he's working on and they can't all be failures, can they?

James Franco is truly having a bad year , with his anemic / " Weekend at Bernie's" performance at the Oscars, the horrible " Your Highness " , the badly reviewed " Broken Towers " , and the very predictable disaster of “Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes”. This poor guy is having back - to - back failures , that has to badly sting . Laughably, before he hosted the Oscars, Franco had the gumption to badmouth Ricky Gervais' standup act at the Golden Globes.
