Watch: Teaser Trailer For Takashi Miike's 3D Cannes Entry 'Hara-Kiri: Death Of A Samurai'

With Takashi Miike's latest effort, "13 Assassins," hitting theaters this weekend -- and according to our review, it's one of his most entertaining films yet -- fans of the Japanese auteur won't have to wait long for his next effort.

Miike will hit Cannes in a couple of weeks with the 3D pic “Hara-Kiri: Death of a Samurai,” a remake of the 1962 film by Masaki Kobayashi. Playing in competition, the 17th century-set story “centers on Hanshiro (Ebizo Ichikawa), an honorable, poverty-stricken samurai requesting to commit hara-kiri in the courtyard of feudal lord Kageyu’s estate. Trying to dismiss Hanshiro’s wish to save face, Kageyu (Koji Yakusho) recounts the tragic story of a similar plea years ago from young ronin Motome (Eita). But the arrogant lord is unaware of vengeful Hanshiro’s bond to Motome.” A brief teaser trailer has arrived and if anything, the film looks beautifully shot and the use of 3D more textural than anything else.

I am pretty excited to this film. The original is one of my all time favorite films. This looks beautifully shot, I just hope it does justice to the original.
