Earlier today, a new trailer dropped for Tarsem's "Immortals," his Greek swords and sandals thingy that confuses being "epic" with simply being loud and pretty ridiculous looking. Leave it to Pixar then to show 'em how to make something look epic and sweeping with their minute-long teaser for next year's "Brave."

Starring Kelly Macdonald, Billy Connolly, Emma Thompson, Julie Walters and Kevin McKidd, the story, set in the Scottish highlands in years gone by, focuses on Princess Merida, the daughter of the rulers of the kingdom, who defies a sacred custom of the land and unintentionally brings turmoil to the kingdom. In order to try and set things right, she goes to a Wise Woman, and is granted a wish that may be more than she bargained for. The film is notable for being the first of Pixar's entries to boast a female lead and for those looking for some original stuff rather than sequels, and this definitely looks to fit the bill. We dig the grand scope and feel of this brief look at the film and it's definitely some great new ground being tackled by the animation studio.

Arriving in 3D, "Brave" hits theaters on June 22, 2012. Check out the synopsis and trailer below. [via Vlicious]

The film features Kelly Macdonald as the voice of Merida, a skilled archer and the daughter of King Fergus (voice of Billy Connolly) and Queen Elinor (voice of Emma Thompson). Determined to carve her own path in life, Merida defies an age-old custom sacred to the uproarious lords of the land: massive Lord MacGuffin (voice of Kevin McKidd), surly Lord Macintosh (voice of Craig Ferguson) and cantankerous Lord Dingwall (voice of Robbie Coltrane). Merida’s actions inadvertently unleash chaos and fury in the kingdom, and when she turns to an eccentric old Wise Woman (voice of Julie Walters) for help, she is granted an ill-fated wish. The ensuing peril forces Merida to discover the meaning of true bravery in order to undo a beastly curse before it’s too late.

This looks lame. Immortals looks a million times better. But thanks for you input and snark!

HELL FUCKING YES. That looks as beautiful as How To Train Your Dragon. It gets away from Pixar's usual bright, polished sheen to something more earthy, warm, and imperfectly beautiful. Also you forgot to mention Craig Ferguson and Robbie Coltrane in the voice cast, a great oversight considering how awesome both of them are.

Can you guy cool it with your hyperbolic comments and focus more on responding to the content of the post? I don’t know what it is, but there was this shift not too long ago and now all your comments seem to take jabs at the poster whenever you can in an extremely condescending fashion.

But, they're not. It's passive bs. Leave the "rebel" style blogging to Jeff Wells.

Yer: If you're looking for boring headlines, go to Variety/Hollywood Reporter. I love the Playlist's snarky titles, that's the point of blogging, to put a spin on a particular piece of information rather than regurgitating the obvious. You guys are doing great, take no prisoners.

Can you guys cool it with your hyperbolic commentary and focus more on distributing the information? I don't know what it is, but there was this shift not too long ago and now all your articles seem to take jabs at directors/films whenever they can in an extremely condescending fashion.
