Excuse our paint chips, the inevitable kinks, and welcome to The Playlist's new home on IndieWire.

We're going to be spending the next couple of weeks getting ourselves and the site together, but that won't stop us from our daily coverage of all things film. If you're a longtime reader, welcome to our space and if you're just joining us for the first time, we hope you like what you see. We will continue to provide deep film news, reviews and features you know us for and will hopefully add some new things along the way.

Welcome to the The Playlist 2.0. Now on to our regularly scheduled program.

love your blog and congrats on the move but PLEASE work on the layout, the minimalist design was such a draw to your site.

  • Gilles van Leeuwen | October 20, 2010 10:10 AMReply

Nice this move, but this looks really awful. As people mentioned before, it's really cluttered. There's also a lot more advertising, there could be very valid reasons for this, and I understand this.
What are the main reasons for this move. For me personally as a daily reader, this is not an improvement. The site has gone from nicely minimalistic to kind of chaotic and unfocused. I can still read all the nice articles, I'm not stupid, but I don't see the added value.

Will you please, please, put more than 4 articles on the firts page?? It's really not that fun to clikc 'next page' all the time, I feel like I'm reading less articles than on the previous blog.

  • rotch | October 20, 2010 4:29 AMReply

Congrats! I hope this brings godo things to you.

  • Kevin Jagernauth | October 20, 2010 3:51 AMReply

Yes, the content on the old site will still be available.

  • Lara | October 20, 2010 3:26 AMReply

Will you be keeping the old site (at least with the old content). There were links to articles I've been using for research purposes and I would hate to completely lose them.

There are always pros and cons to change - as a blogger this is a nice step forward but as a reader of The Playlist having more articles to look per page might be nice (even if you only have a headline/teaser for the article and click on to read more. I was definitely a scanner of the articles and read them in a hodge-podge order.

Congrats on the new space and hopefully when the "paint it dry" it will be even better.

Love this blog. Glad to see it progress! Good work.

    My homepage bookmark is changed.

These "independent" people can be snarky but they'll get used to it. It's not like IndieWire is AOL or Yahoo. Chill out people. They support our niche.

Actually, if you could steal Todd McCarthy's layout now that he's not using it, that'd be an improvement.

  • KitCon | October 19, 2010 10:26 AMReply

Indiewire lost Todd McCarthy to THR but they gained you guys so Congratulations to you both.

  • Christoph | October 19, 2010 9:25 AMReply

Why did you move? To be one of 25 blogs? To water your good name? I hope they pay you big time.

  • M | October 19, 2010 7:53 AMReply

Congrats on the new move, just hope it won't be so cluttered.

  • TheoC | October 19, 2010 6:46 AMReply

Cool, congratulations on the move and all it entails.

  • Mike_M | October 19, 2010 5:50 AMReply

Congrats! I agree, the IW layout looks cluttered and messy. Would be nice if headline pages were a little longer...

  • Brett | October 19, 2010 5:41 AMReply

Congrats on the move! The only thing I would change so far is how short the headline pages seem to be. I feel like I am clicking "next page" more than I did at the old url.

  • BuntyHoven | October 19, 2010 5:30 AMReply

Also like the ease of comments compared to Blogspot. But would prefer if it was ordered chronologically, with the first comments at the top. Makes it easier to follow a conversation. Hopefully this will allow a bigger community of commenters to emerge.

    Congrats on the move!

  • warren oates | October 19, 2010 5:25 AMReply

Congrats on the move. Agree about the layout. Your blog was always so clean-looking and easy to read. IW is always cluttered, which is one reason I stay away from this site when I can get most of the same info elsewhere. Maybe you'll pull IW kicking and screaming into the realm of less hideous design.

  • BuntyHoven | October 19, 2010 5:04 AMReply

Well done on the big move. Layout could use a tweak, but congrats on being recognized for the excellent coverage over the last few years.
