  Rave Buckland Hills Imax, Manchester (New Haven) in Connecticut is not true IMAX! It is apart of the Rave Motion Pictures theater chain whose IMAX is fake IMAX. Don't be conned out of your money! I live in south-west Connecticut and the nearest theater that houses a true IMAX screen to me is just over the border in New Rochelle, New York; Regal New Roc IMAX. It's about an hour drive and it's completely worth it.

  Can you confirm that the Regal Dublin is true 70mm film? I called them a few months ago about their IMAX screen, and they said it was digital. Could it be that they converted it back to film?

  The Regal/Dublin is no longer showing IMAX in 70mm format. I went a long time between visits. Dec 2009 for Avatar was 70mm. The big giveaway is that the movie just started, there are no 70mm trailers. I returned in 2012 May, to see Avengers. Yes it's digital, but it's amazing. I'm sure it's dual 4K projectors as I'm not aware of anything with more resolution. It's nothing close to what medium format film can resolve, but it looked fantastic and MUCH brighter than 70mm IMAX. thumbs up. Haven't been to the remodeled Metreon in SF yet.

  so i have a gripe. i realy whant to get see TDKR in 70mm but as im in the uk in the south my only option is to travel over 3 hours to london to see it. or scarifies the 70 for 35 and travel 2o min. why cant imax have more 70 mm sites its outrageous . the us prity much has at least 4 in each state and we in the uk have 4 across the whole country. i concede that the us is bigger and its probaly works out the same but i dont feel that way. is it worth traveling over 3 hours and spending twice the price of the imax ticket just to get there or just go to the local and miss out. ?

  Not all IMAX digital is bad. I live in Baton Rouge and went to the Mall of Louisiana IMAX Digital to see The dark knight rises. At first I was worried because I heard IMAX digital was alot smaller than 70 mm. Nonetheless I walk in the theater and the screen was huge. I also went to the opry mills IMAX in Tennessee, and from what I remember the size of the 2 screens were pretty similar. It all depends on the specific theater.

  You should warn people that some of the theatres listed are dome, and with the dome comes an EXTREMELY distorted image. I agree that this film should be seen in true IMAX, but the dome ones are no good for Hollywood features... like this one.

  He should have just shot it in normal 70mm, or better yet, in MV48. True Imax installs are fairly rare to find in the world, but there are many times that number of conventional 70mm projectors still stored in theaters. And MV48, a 35mm standard with digital, liquid crystal and compressed air shutters, is such a cheap and quantum leap in film technology compared to Imax and these stupid digital installations. It's like, what, $15,000 for a MV 35mm projector head, and it makes ALL film reels look much better and reduces dirt and film damage over multiple playings compared to mechanical heads and shutters? And the cameras are no bigger than a standard 35mm one. Why are theaters, directors, and DPs not demanding this be the next standard instead of inferior digital or far out, expensive, and rarified Imax 15/70? Stupid.

  I assume MV48 is the format Peter Jackson used for Hobbit. 35mm at 48 FPS. Do you have links to comparisons? CP65 cameras shot 65mm/70mm at 60 FPS for eye popping results. I have not seen the MV48 format. Algorithmically it makes sense but then "the eye of the beholder". Waiting for the Hobbit. Watching Dark Knight tonight in 70mm projection. Oh Yeah.

  Here's an accurate list of what is what format. "1570" on this list is true IMAX.
  
  Can you remove Halifax, Nova Scotia from the list. They switched to Digital only about a year ago.
  Everything else on the list is identified as "1570" and is "True IMAX"

  Santikos Palladium IMAX in San Antonio is NOT a real IMAX. Rivercenter IMAX is the only location in San Antonio to deliver the true IMAX experience (70mm) in town. Rivercenter IMAX showed the TDKR prologue before MI4 several months ago. I had to go to the Palladium IMAX in 2008 to watch TDK because the Rivercenter IMAX wasn't showing it. Check out their websites to see that the Rivercenter IMAX is ONLY real IMAX experience in San Antonio.

  The Bayers Lake IMAX theatre in Halifax, Canada is no longer a 70mm IMAX theatre. It was converted to digital in June 2011.

  Sorry but the Scotiabank theatres in Edmonton and Calgary have been changed to digital projectors. Don't ask me why anyone would replace a beautiful 70mm IMAX projector for digital. Someone who obviously doesn't care about cinema I guess.

  The following article: http://wearemoviegeeks.com/2011/04/ronnies-20-imax-goes-digital-this-friday-with-fast-five/ states that the Ronnie's Theater in St. Louis, MO is not real IMAX. The article says the screen has been converted to DIGITAL and that the screen is 30 feet tall by 55 feet wide.

  The Dark Knight Rises is not playing at the Telus World of Science in Edmonton. The only location it's available in IMAX(not true 70mm) is at the Scotiabank Theatre in West Edmonton Mall.

  Hamilton 16 is not full-sized. The State Museum in downtown Indianapolis is the only full sized IMAX in Indiana.

  Michigan list is also incorrect. RC (Rave Cinemas) Ann Arbor 20 is also a digital IMAX and therefore not a true 15/70.

  Well, one of the largest screen in the world is in Italy, the famous Sala Energia at Arcadia Melzo
  http://www.arcadiacinema.com/index.php?id_menu=32 boosting a 30mt X 16.50mt (nearly 500mq!) and is running a couple of stacked Christie 4K DLP Projectors. Personally I'd prefer a Sony SXRD 4K screen however: While much smaller, the image quality is much better than DLP or 70mm.

  Wichita claims to have the largest IMAX in the country, but it's digital. So, if the digital "print" is pulled from a 70 mm source, why is it getting short shrift from Nolan and Co. (the 8 minute preview from several months didnt screen here)? Actual question, if you have the time. Is the image fidelity really taking a shot?   I only point that out because they have almost stopped running remastered 35mm "IMAX experience" films because AMC and Regal's fake imax screens have cannibalized their business.

  Yeah, this list is no good. Neither of the two theaters listed in Westchester County (White Plains, NY and New Rochelle, NY) is 15/70 IMAX, although the one right across the Hudson in West Nyack is the real deal.

  you're actually wrong on your Pennsylvania list. The Tarentum IMAX is Fake-IMAX. The screen was converted to IMAX digital on 3/11/2011. so this is fake IMAX.

  Well I'm taking no chances as I'm driving 2 hours to catch this. Going to Carnegie Science Museum for the four-story IMAX Dome Theater. One of only 50 theaters of its kind in North America. It was selected to show the prologue so I know it's a legit option...

  Actually, the Tarentum IMAX is in fact converting to 70mm IMAX just for the movie. Normally, you're correct, it's Digital IMAX, but I recently contacted them and they are in fact converting to 70mm just for Dark Knight Rises. I checked on the official website of Dark Knight Rises and it too listed as Tarentum to see 70mm IMAX. Plus the screen is full IMAX so that's pretty awesome.
