Way back in 2010, Will Smith had a decision to make: star in "Men In Black 3" or the magical realist "The City That Sailed." And obviously, the franchise movie won out. But it seems "The City That Sailed" is still something Smith wants to make, although it now has a whole new creative team.
Previously set to be penned by Andrew Niccol ("Gattaca") and directed by Francis Lawrence ("I Am Legend"), the project now has family friendly Shawn Levy ("Night At The Museum," "Real Steel") attached to helm with Audrey Wells ("Shall We Dance," "Under The Tuscan Sun") to write. The movie is about girl in London who causes Manhattan to break away and drift across the Atlantic after having her wish to be reunited with her street magician father is granted by some magical candles she found. Well, that's what the log line was a few years ago, but it seems to have been simplified, with Deadline reporting that will center on a "father and daughter on the island of Manhattan as it breaks loose and sails across the Atlantic Ocean." That seems to be a bit more straight up adventure than fantasy.
Anyway, like all things Will Smith is attached to, there's no word on when this might actually get made. The project is set up at Fox, but right now, their priority as far as Levy is concerned is making "Night At The Museum 3."
