World Premieres Of 'The Imitation Game,' 'Wild' & 'Rosewater' Lead 2014 Telluride Film Festival Line-Up

We're well underway on festival season: the Venice Film Festival is going into its second day, and as we speak, our intrepid correspondent is mid-air on the way to the Telluride International Film Festival, which kicks off tomorrow. An increasingly crucial Oscar launch pad as well as a nicely curated festival, Telluride also differs from other festivals in that it only announces its lineup at the last minute. And by the last minute, we mean just now.

Imitation Game

We're well underway on festival season: the Venice Film Festival is going into its second day, and as we speak, our intrepid correspondent is mid-air on the way to the Telluride International Film Festival, which kicks off tomorrow. An increasingly crucial Oscar launch pad as well as a nicely curated festival, Telluride also differs from other festivals in that it only announces its lineup at the last minute. And by the last minute, we mean just now.

TIFF's new policy of not letting films be described as "world premieres" means that many of the big ticket movies had already been guessed, but "The Imitation Game," "Rosewater" and "Wild" have been confirmed as making their world premieres at the festival. Additionally, Venice's "Birdman" and "99 Homes" will be crossing the Atlantic to make North American debuts at Telluride, along with a huge chunk of the Cannes line-up, including "Mommy," "Leviathan," "Foxcatcher," "The Homesman," "Mr. Turner" and "Two Days One Night," with "Whiplash" making the trip from Sundance, and "71" from Berlin.

There's also the world premiere of the new version of "Madame Bovary," starring Mia Wasikowska and Ezra Miller, Martin Scorsese's NYRB documentary "The 50 Year Argument," and the usual fine line-up of vintage cinema, with Hilary Swank and Volker Schlondorff getting special tributes this year. And it's worth noting that as in previous years, there are a number of TBA slots: "Argo" made its appearance in one such position a few years ago, we recall, so there's still room for a big movie or two to be added to the lineup.
