'World War Z' Teaser Poster Succeeds At Making Audiences Think Brad Pitt Is Starring In A Zorro Movie

So, your major tentpole is in trouble and has been the subject of bad press for months. Mainstream audiences -- if they've heard about it -- only know, at most, that it stars Brad Pitt, has zombies and might be a bit of mess. Otherwise, they have no idea what a "World War Z" is. So what do you do to stoke excitement? If you're Paramount, you put out a teaser poster that features nothing more than a black background and some text. Man, even the interns must have had a day off. Did a secretary's assistant do this?

Anyway, with a teaser for the trailer of sorts dropping last night, and the whole shebang arriving on Thursday, the studio has dropped the first teaser poster and it's....more like "World War Zzzzz" amirite? Really, you couldn't even put a picture of Brad Pitt's face on here? Dude has more facetime in Architectural Digest this month than he does here. What about a zombie? Or a ravaged landscape? Or Marc Forster crying? Anything? Or maybe it's just a sign the studio doesn't care, so why should we, right?

Love the Zorro line! I just hope no one thinks he is starring in Max Brooks book, because really, this is going to be nothing at all like it! I blogged about it here: World War Z

Yeah it's bland, but I don't see what's so horrible about it. Clearly the studio thinks Pitt and the cool-sounding title are intriguing enough to audiences for a teaser poster. And yeah, no one's going to walk by it and think "Zorro!"

Super lame poster. I get they maybe going for a minimalist, intriguing vibe here, with just the title and the star's name. But I think they've taken it a tad too far.

Step out into the real world. Most people who see this poster will ask what is WWZ. They will not think Zorro. Don't understand why movie bloggers are always so negative.

Funny, and so true. That's 0 out of 2 so far for their teaser promos. I hope for their sake the full trailer is much better.
