Detective Project A Mix Of 'Chinatown & 'The Long Goodbye'Exclusive: Danny McBride is first and foremost known as a comic actor, and these days he's perhaps best known as Kenny Powers, the shameless and insufferable former professional baseball pitcher on HBO's "Eastbound & Down." But McBride is also a writer, penning "The Foot Fist Way," which essentially was his calling card into Hollywood; many episodes for "Eastbound & Down," which he is a creator on; and "Your Highness," his upcoming medieval stoner comedy co-starring James Franco, Natalie Portman and Zooey Deschanel and directed by David Gordon Green ("Pineaaple Express") that hits theaters April 8.

Also Talks About His Role In Upcoming Paul Dano Drama 'For Ellen'David Gordon Green tends to have his hands in a number of projects at any given time, but naturally, some stall out, get left behind or put aside. Back in 2008, just as "Pineapple Express" was gearing up to hit theaters and do some boffo box office, Green and Danny McBride pulled out an old script from their drawer, dusted it off, and set it up at Universal. Titled "Mr. Machine," McBride described the project as "our take on those old Amblin films -- it follows around these science fair geeks that construct this robot that gets a life of its own. It's like... I don't know, a 'Short Circuit' zombie movie." Well, it's now a few years later and there has been little word since, so we asked Jon Heder --- who is currently doing press to drum up support for the animated short he's developing via Kickstarter) -- about the status of the picture that is being produced under his Greasy Entertainment shingle.

We were already pretty excited when it was revealed that the mysterious Adam Yaunch directed short, "Fight For Your Right Revisted" had a cast that included Elijah Wood, Danny McBride, Seth Rogen, Will Ferrell, John C. Reilly and Jack Black. But if IMDB is accurate, that's just the tip of the iceberg in regards to which stars will be popping their heads on screen for the forthcoming short.

David Gordon Green isn't fucking around. A new trailer for his upcoming medieval stoner comedy "Your Highness" has arrived and while it's just as funny (though not as raunchy) as the red-band spot that hit last month, it definitely gives us a look at more of the whizz-bang digital effects that look very good, especially for a not-so-serious quest picture.

When Prince Fabious's (James Franco) bride is kidnapped by an evil wizard, he sets out on a quest to rescue her... accompanied by his lazy, useless brother Thadeous. Of course this is all set in medieval times, and Thadeous is played by Danny McBride, whose character has to kick a pot habit along the way. And yes, this is the ridiculous/awesome set-up to David Gordon Green's "Your Highness," which possibly looks like it might be the best time you'll have in theaters in 2011. The film also stars Justin Theroux as the wizard, Zooey Deschanel (who worked with Green on "All the Real Girls," as did McBride; it was his first appearance onscreen) as the damsel in distress and Natalie Portman as a fierce warrior queen.

Considering we're huge fans of pretty much everyone involved, it's almost surprising that we've been cautious of the upcoming fantasy-comedy "Your Highness." But with David Gordon Green's previous studio comedy, "Pineapple Express," being far from a home-run, and a near-six month release delay, signs were beginning to stack up that the film could be yet another expensive, indulgent misfire from Universal. However, our man on the floor of New York Comic-Con flipped for the footage shown there, calling it "excellent, funny [and] thrilling," and now the rest of us have been able to catch up with what he was talking about, with the first widely available footage from the film making its way on to the internet, in the form of a red-band trailer on IGN.

'Little Miss Sunshine' Helmers Still On Board Way, way back in 2006, Jim Carrey and Ben Stiller were all set to star in a sci-fi comedy called "Used Guys," to be directed by "Meet the Parents" director Jay Roach. The project was set in a future run by women, where cloned male slaves are traded like cars. The film was only a month away from shooting when Fox canned the project, citing a rising budget of over $100 million (thanks to the futuristic sets), so Carrey and Roach jumped ship, and a few years passed with no apparent movement.
