Earlier in the week, Universal got their Academy Awards campaign moving by launching their For Your Consideration site, which included uploading a selection of screenplays for their major movies online. Some feel optimistic at best ("The Lorax," "Snow White and the Huntsman," "Ted"), some are a little more viable ("This Is 40," "Les Misérables"). But fresh off reading the Judd Apatow script (which is kind of terrific, and has the potential to be the director's best film yet), and having covered the acting categories in previous weeks, we thought we'd turn our eye to the screenplay races.

Shea Whigham isn't exactly a household name you'd instantly recognize, but a quick look at his resume will certainly ring some bells for anyone with a keen eye for the small or silver screen. At least in this writer's eyes, the actor has been doing strong work on a weekly basis as Eli Thompson, the younger brother of Steve Buscemi's protagonist Nucky on HBO show "Boardwalk Empire" with appearances in several films already this year, including "Take Shelter," "The Lincoln Lawyer" and "This Must Be The Place."

Russell's long developing "The Silver Linings Playbook" now rolls in front of cameras, he's added one more to the cast. In all honesty, two years ago, few outside of Australia had heard of veteran actress Jacki Weaver. Indeed, while she worked on a number of seminal films at home in the 1970s, winning two Australian Film Institute Awards and turning up in Peter Weir's "Picnic At Hanging Rock," she'd been mostly absent from the screen since, focusing instead on stage work in Oz (most recently appearing alongside Cate Blanchett in "Uncle Vanya").

Even though Mark Wahlberg and David O. Russell can't seem to get on the same page these days -- the actor had to drop out of "The Silver Linings Playbook" recently due to scheduling woes -- it still seems the pair are looking over each others' shoulders. At the beginning of the year, you might remember that Russell was attached to rewrite and direct "2 Guns" with Vince Vaughn attached to star. Well, Russell and Wahlberg have swapped the project and Vaughn looks to have moved on.

As you already know by now, not a week can go by without David O. Russell attaching his name to one project or another, but we generally hear not much beyond that so color us surprised that there is a bit of news on "The Mission," a film he put his name to a couple of weeks ago.

Also Circling Disney's 'Maleficient'; Director Confirms He's Been Talking To Angelina Jolie, Plus Robert De Niro For 'The Silver Linings Playbook'Update: Ahh, so this is the one of the "several projects" that David O. Russell was talking to Angelina Jolie about. According to THR, now that Tim Burton has dropped the project, "The Fighter" filmmaker is one of the director's "circling" the Sleeping Beauty project "Maleficient." Russell never met a meeting he didn't like, so we're sure he's interested, but knowing his creative differences with studios, we would bet this one is not going to stick.
