Frank Miller's Sin City: A Dame To Kill For
Eight years after audiences first visited the monochrome, rain slicked, bullet filled streets of "Sin City," are they ready to go there again? Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller certainly hope so, with talk of a TV series and "Sin City 3" already percolating. But to get there, the awkwardly titled "Frank Miller's Sin City: A Dame To Kill For" will need to make some major waves, and the first trailer is here to entice with more pulpy adventures.

300: Rise Of An Empire
In 2006, Zack Snyder took the movie world by storm with “300,” a muscular, testosterone-fueled adaptation of a Frank Miller swords-and-sandals graphic novel which took Robert Rodriguez’s“Sin City” concept—painting the comic book pages right onto the screen—to the next level, and arguably, its zenith. It was something of a game-changer and surprise runaway hit, cementing Snyder’s status as a tentpole-worthy filmmaker, grossing $450 million worldwide and transforming March into the early blockbuster season it is now.

With TV the new home for ambitious entertainment that can also be financially lucrative and critically acclaimed, it's hardly a surprise that the Weinstein boys are making a play into that arena. In fact, the seeds were planted a few years ago when Harvey struck a deal with the new owners of Miramax to develop TV projects out of their old movies, and it's now starting to bear fruit. This past summer, a "Scream" TV series got the the thumbs up and now a couple more shows that originated as movies on the Dimension label are getting the episodic treatment.

When the as-of-yet-untitled “Superman Vs. Batman” movie that was announced at Comic-Con last month, “Man of Steel” actor—and man with the golden pipes—Henry Lennix read aloud a quote from the seminal 1986 graphic novel “The Dark Knight Returns” to give nerds a tease for the kind of direction Zack Snyder and David S. Goyer are looking to go with the film. So it should come as no surprise that Snyder is apparently meeting with the graphic novel’s writer Frank Miller to talk about the highly anticipated film.

Screenwriters Turned Directors, Best/Worst
“...but what I really want to do is direct,” goes the hoary old Hollywood refrain. Actors, key grips, wardrobe assistants, the odd ambitious caterer -- sometimes it feels like everyone who’s ever stepped on to a movie set dreams, idly or with calculation, of one day calling the shots. Even the clapper loaders, who technically are the ones who call shots. But of all those jealously eyeing the director’s megaphone (metaphorical sadly, they seem to have gone the way of the plus-four as part of the director’s standard kit) perhaps those with the most reason to be covetous are the screenwriters, the hardy souls who turn in 120-page draft after draft, only to have their baby wrested from their grasp and dressed up, maybe brilliantly but often not, in clothes they might not have chosen themselves.

Frank Miller isn't a complicated man, but his work does seem to suggest that he's fine with sticking to the "Sin City"/"The Spirit" millieu thankyouverymuch. And after teaming with Evan Rachel Wood and Chris Evans a couple of years ago for a stylish Gucci spot, the director has paired up with the actors again to make another ad for the fashion house.

That was fast. Yesterday Joseph Gordon-Levitt joined Robert Rodriguez's "Sin City: A Dame To Kill For" and Josh Brolin was said to be one of the additional actors potentially joining the cast. Now Brolin is confirmed. Dimension Films announced today that Brolin has joined the "Sin City" sequel cast as “Dwight," the character that Clive Owen played in the original film for co-directors Rodriguez and Frank Miller. Evidently there's still one more big part up for grabs. The part of the titular “Dame” has yet to be cast.

Ever since "Sin City" proved to be a robust hit on its release in April 2005, talk has percolated about a sequel. After all, the film was relatively inexpensive to make, and there were plenty more stories from Frank Miller's source material comics that could lead to another film. But between the ups and downs of the Weinstein Brothers' Dimension Films, the busy-ness of co-director Robert Rodriguez, and the difficulty of re-assembling the all-star cast, it was much-discussed, but never quite came together.

To whet appetites, we now have a promo poster for the film, titled "Sin City: A Dame To Kill For," which plays it generic but bares enough of the neo-noir hallmarks of its predecessor to entice.
