Today, Alfred Hitchcock’s "The Man Who Knew Too Much" will officially be available on Blu-ray via The Criterion Collection. To honor its release, Criterion has posted a video on YouTube of Guillermo del Toro ("Hellboy," "Pan’s Labyrinth") speaking very fondly of the film and of Hitchcock. Del Toro explains why he considers the 1934 film to be the earliest evidence of Hitchcock’s greatness.

Speaking to press yesterday to help get the word out about "Mama," the horror film he produced starring Jessica Chastain, he told The Playlist about being approached to direct "Star Wars: Episode 7" and provided an update on the status of "At The Mountains Of Madness" and "The Hulk" TV series, all before even hitting the stage last night at CES to unveil a new trailer for "Pacific Rim." And it seems there were even more morsels of info given to press during Del Toro's interview jaunt.

It's been helluva day for Guillermo Del Toro fans. The director kicked off his Monday talking to journalists about his upcoming "Mama," the horror film he produced starring Jessica Chastain, and of course, the chatty director shared all kinds of tidbits not related to that film at all. With The Playlist he revealed that he was approached for "Star Wars: Episode 7," which he turned down, and that he was planning another studio pitch for "At The Mountains Of Madness." And then he closed things off by walking on stage this evening at CES during mobile company Qualcomm's opening presentation, to help show off the new trailer for "Pacific Rim" which is powered by their processor or something.

The always chatty and affable director Guillermo del Toro is the gift that keeps on giving. Always having his fingers in several pots, the filmmaker wears several hats as a producer, writer, visionary and more. This month he's shepherding another ghost story to the screen as a producer of "Mama." No stranger to the genre having directed "The Devil's Backbone," and having produced "The Orphanage," "Mama" stars Jessica Chastain and "Game Of Thrones" villain Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as a couple tasked with the challenge of raising his young nieces that were left alone in the forest for 5 years. However, all is not what it seems... See del Toro introduce the short film that convinced him to back the project in the first place, he calls it "claustrophobic." "The short was one of the scariest things I've ever seen and it was incredibly well-made," he said.

Easily one of the biggest pieces of movie news that arrived in 2012 was the announcement that more "Star Wars" sequels were on the way. And heading into 2013, it's still on everyone's mind, even though "Star Wars: Episode 7" isn't due into theaters until 2015. What we know already is that Michael Arndt is writing the script, but the million dollar question remains: who is going to direct? Numerous big names -- J.J. Abrams, Steven Spielberg and more -- have taken themselves out of the race, and another who politely declined the gig was an early fan favorite: Guillermo Del Toro.

It may seem a bit weird that Jessica Chastain is doing what appears to be a pretty low-rent horror movie, but we'd reckon it's another way to get an auteur notched on her belt that already includes names like Terrence Malick, Jeff Nichols, Kathryn Bigelow, John Hillcoat and more. Guillermo del Toro is the producer behind "Mama," which finds Chastain replacing her fiery red locks for a black-haired goth look, and before you see the movie, you can now check out the short that got the ball rolling.

For a long time, it seemed as though "The Hobbit" would never get made. Despite the multi-billion dollar success of Peter Jackson's "Lord of the Rings" films, the rights to J.R.R. Tolkien's earlier novel were tangled up, and Jackson didn't even seem to be sure he wanted to go back to Middle Earth. Amidst all the projects he has lined up to direct himself, the Mexican filmmaker has also turned to producing interesting projects by promising up-and-coming filmmakers. Earlier this year it was announced that Del Toro would be producing CG-animated film “Day Of The Dead,” and now THR is reporting that Fox Animation Studios has come aboard to make the movie.

There's a lot of big hitters arriving in theaters next summer; "Iron Man 3," "Man Of Steel," "The Lone Ranger," "Star Trek Into Darkness," "The Great Gatsby," "The Wolverine," "Elysium." But if you'd asked us this morning what our most anticipated film of the warm months of 2013 was going to be, we wouldn't have even had to think before we answered "Pacific Rim." For the most part, it's because it's the first film in five years from director Guillermo Del Toro ("Pan's Labyrinth"). Although that it features giant robots and giant monsters kicking the holy living shit out of each other, and that it has a very strong script to be working from are other good reasons why we're excited (and why Warner Bros have already commissioned a script for a sequel).
